LYRA'S POV
I woke up surrounded by wolves.
A dozen of them. All sizes. All in different colours.
Omegas, betas, Alphas.
Their eyes glowing in the dim light.
I couldn't breathe.
"Hi, Lyra, you are welcome.
A voice called out. It was smooth.
A tall woman stepped forward. Impossibly beautiful. Like she was screaming danger.
" Where am i?, This has to be a mistake ", I whispered."
The woman smiled.
"We don't make mistakes here at Nexus Academy. I'm Lawrence, your home room teacher."
I was confused about where I was. And why was I surrounded by wolves?
Werewolves are extinct.
Everyone knows that.
But if they weren't...... if these were the creatures that killed my family.....
I forced my face to stay blank.
They must not know I'm human. If they found out i am dead.
And if they were actually werewolves, i will finally learn their name. And I did kill every one of them.
As those thoughts ran through my mind, a robotic voice echoed towards me.
Hi, I'm Binge, your soul-bound. I'm your new assistant. I'm here to help you awaken your powers?"
Around me, a smaller soul-bound scurried off towards the other werewolves.
Then another voice rang out, loud and clear .
" Attention, all New wolves, you are to report to the courtyard immediately for the MOON RISING ASCENSION.
I repeat: ALL NEW WOLVES MUST COME TO THE COURTYARD FOR THE MOON RISING ASCENSION.
" And to the old Alphas", the voice added, "you come to the courtyard to claim your packs."
"Stand up", Miss Lawrence's voice was sharp.
I blinked; I was hiding on a narrow cot, and the sheet was too clean. The air smelled faintly antiseptic and cedar.
My neck still ached from where the claws had hit.
" I can't go anywhere; I don't know why you brought me here," I said as i sat up slowly. Testing my limbs. Nothing broken. But i was weak.
"If you don't go anywhere, Lyra, I can't help you awaken your powers". Soul bound said.
"Shut the f**k up. How do I get him out here?"
I spat out.
" Boss, are we going to awaken the highest power in Nexus? " The soul-bound kept asking.
Miss Lawrence watched without blinking, like she was cataloging every word.
"Good, Lyra. Since you are not useless, Miss Lawrence turned and walked out, the hem of her black clothes sweeping behind Me. "Come, the Academy doesn't wait."
I swung my legs over the hedge and followed.
Outside.
The moment I stepped through the archway, the air changed cold and sharp, laced with pine and rain and something wilder, like storm and ozone from a storm.
Nexus Academy wasn't a building. It was carved into the mountain itself.
Black stone rose jagged, claw-like spires, as if the mountain had been torn open by something massive. The full Moonlight slid off the polished rock, giving it a faint silver sheen, no windows. Just narrow slits. Like slit-eyed wolf eyes watching the forest show.
The bridges of rope stretched between the towers. Swaying in the wind. Below, a deep ravine cut through the courtyard.
At the bottom, shadows moved too fast, too silent. Wolves.
The courtyard was a training ground, wearing a mask of a garden. Ancient oaks grew through cracked stones, roots gripping the rock like fingers. Iron dummies stood scattered around. Slashed and torn.
Statues lined the walkway. Wolves mid-leap. Mid-howl, mid-kill. Carved so perfectly their eyes seemed alive.
It was beautiful.
But I didn't feel safe.
It felt like a place that only let you live if you were strong enough to deserve it.
Miss Lawrence didn't look back.
" Welcome to Nexus, Lyra. Try not to die in your first week."
Miss Lawrence led me through the stone arch and into the garden courtyard.
That's when I saw her.
At the center of the training circle, a girl I knew stood barefoot on the cold stone. Breath heavy, eyes squeezed shut in concentration.
I froze.
"Do you know her?" soul-bound asked.
"No, that can't be right," I said out loud.
This is the same girl I talked about seeing wolves in my dream would shut me off.
" Werewolves aren't real, Lyra; they've gone extinct."
So what was she doing here?"
Miss Lawrence didn't even look surprised. She just said low enough that I could hear.
"Pick up your jaw, Lyra; you are not the only Liar in this place."
My blood went cold.
If my best friend was a Wolf .....
What else had been a lie?
" Kaia", I shouted. Stepping a few feet towards her.
Kaia's shoulders dropped when dhe saw me. " What are you doing here?"
My eyes narrowed. "I should be asking you that. You said Werewolves don't exist, but why are you here?"
Kaia's grip tightened on me; she pulled my sleeve towards a hidden place. Her voice was barely a whisper as she pinned me to the stone wall.
"Shhhh," she hissed, her eyes darting to the torchlight flickering down the corridor; "you know if you get caught, you are in trouble."
The two slid into the narrow gap behind a broken pillar, breath slow, listening to the footsteps pass by.
Kaia pressed closer; her hands clung to me,lowering her voice. "Do you have a plan for getting out of here since you already got here?"
" I am not getting out of here; I need to find who killed my family. Now that I am a little closer," I said aggressively.
"So you think you're going to kill all the werewolves, and I'm gonna let you do that, Kaia spat out.
And for a few seconds, I stood in shock; my best friend, whom I had known, had been hiding a lot of secrets from me, but now she was trying to pretend everything was okay and trying to also cut me off.
"This is why I didn't want you to know at first, because it's a secret from humans and I know you were desperate to kill one of us," Kai screamed.
Kaia released her grip on my throat and stepped back. She walked away, and I followed close behind, demanding answers.
"So that's why you kept it from me? That's why you made me feel like I was crazy? Kaia, we are best friends." I kept screaming.
Soul moved towards Lyra.
"Are you guys still Angry at each other?"
As Kaia stormed off, she froze immediately.
I chased after her until a solid wall of muscle slammed into my shoulders.
A collective gasp rippled among the new werewolves.
"Is that the K4 group?"
THE FOUR ALPHAS.
Four Alphas stepped into the courtyard, each with an intimidating presence.
The leading group was Damien, a six-foot-tall figure, coily brown hair, striking blue eyes, and light skin whose jawline was chiseled and sharp.
He was the LEADER of the CRIMSON CLAW PACK. AN ALPHA HEIR, A BILLIONAIRE.
Ethan followed beside him, his ethereal white hair contrasting with sharp red eyes and a defined jawline. THE LEADER OF THE APEC SHADOW PACK.
AN ALPHA HEIR.
Next was Damon, whose features were defined by a V-sharp jawline, six feet tall, the strongest among all. His red hair and eyebrows coordinated perfectly, giving him a striking look. Which was completed by deep, dazzling brown eyes. THE LEADER OF THE IRON FANG DOMINION. AN ALPHA HEIR.
And the last was Kelvin; he was six feet tall, and he had a curvy jawline. It gave him a more approachable and cute appearance. THE LEADER OF THE MOON BOUND. AN ALPHA HEIR.
The crowd kept screaming their name.
Blinded by fury, I was storming off.
"Danger, Lyra, danger, Lyra," Soul Bound kept saying, fidgeting.
I stormed off, moving towards the four Alphas, shoving Damien's shoulders.
The crowd went dead silent.
Damien grabbed me, wrist-pinning my throat, with his hands as his claws slid out gently.
With a dangerous look in his eyes.
" Who are you?"
Why do you have this bloodline?"
Why are you here ?"
