The Predator and the Prey

Elara sat in her car, her forehead resting against the steering wheel. She was shaking. Seeing Liam again had unraveled the peace she had fought so hard to find. But she didn't have time for a breakdown. She had a job to do, and a son to protect. She drove back to the small cafe where she had left Leo with her friend Sarah. As she walked in, her heart nearly stopped. Liam Sterling was sitting at a small corner table. And he wasn't alone. Leo was sitting across from him, happily munching on a chocolate muffin. Liam was watching the boy with an intensity that was almost frightening—a mix of awe, guilt, and raw love. "Mommy! Look! This nice man bought me a muffin!" Leo shouted, waving a sticky hand. Elara stormed over to the table, her eyes blazing. "Get away from him, Liam! Now!" Liam stood up slowly, his eyes never leaving Leo’s face. The resemblance was undeniable. The way Leo tilted his head when he smiled, the shape of his jaw—it was like looking at a miniature version of the man standing before her. "He likes chocolate muffins," Liam said quietly, his voice thick with emotion. "Just like I did when I was his age." "Sarah, take Leo to the car," Elara commanded, her voice vibrating with rage. Sarah, sensing the danger, quickly ushered the confused boy out of the cafe. Once they were gone, Elara turned on Liam. "How dare you? How dare you approach him without my permission?" "He’s my blood, Elara," Liam hissed, the billionaire predator finally emerging. "I can feel it. You can lie to the courts, you can lie to the world, but you can't lie to me. That boy is a Sterling." "He is a Thorne!" Elara countered. "He doesn't have your name, and he will never have your life. If you come near him again, I will file a restraining order so fast it will make your head spin." Liam stepped closer, pinning her against the cafe’s brick wall. His eyes were dark, swirling with a mixture of desire and fury. "You want to play hardball? Fine. Audit my company. Tear apart my files. But know this—while you’re looking for my secrets, I’ll be building a case for custody. You took five years from me, Elara. I won't let you take another day." He leaned in, his lips inches from hers. "The war has started, Elara. And this time, I’m not letting you run." As he walked away, leaving her breathless and terrified, Elara realized that her plan for revenge had just become a battle for her son's soul. She had come to New York to take Liam’s empire, but she might end up losing the only thing that mattered.
