“I hope you are doing well,” Lord Kineton began.
“Yes, thank you. What did you want to say to me?” Cassie answered. She didn’t particularly want to spend much time in this man’s presence, and she saw no reason to engage in polite chatter.
He seemed put off for a moment, but then collected himself and got right to the point. “Have you given your answer to Fitzwalter yet regarding his proposal?”
“No, I haven’t. Why?”
“Because it might interest you to know that since he proposed he’s stopped searching for another investor in his company,” Lord Kineton said, sounding ever so slightly pleased to be imparting this information.
Cassie thought about that for a moment and then said, “Are you implying that he believes he can use my dowry to fund his company?”
