There was no way she could avoid him now. If she’d seen him coming, she could have turned and gone in the other direction, but now with this strange Mr. Hershawn next to her, there was nothing she could do. “Philip! How… er… wonderful to see you here! What a surprise,” she said, plastering a polite smile onto her face.
“It certainly is! You aren’t making your debut this season, are you? Aren’t you a little, well…” He gave an embarrassed laugh. He turned to Mr. Hershawn. “You weren’t about to lead her out for a dance, were you?”
“No. Just looking for her sister, Lady Sorrell,” Mr. Hershawn admitted.
“Ah, well, I’ll be more than happy to lead her out. Give us a chance to catch up. We’re old friends as you might have guessed,” Philip told the gentleman.
