9 She'll Show Herself SoonTHE ELEVATOR OPENS to a nervous teenage boy, reigning multicolored leashes of several large dogs. In the corner, a teenage girl glued to her mobile never looks up as I sidled next to a professional-looking couple holding hands. Before the elevator door closes, I've sized everyone up. Awkwardly shy, the teenage girl uses the cell phone to disengage from society. From the adolescent boy's nervous state, I'm sure dog walking is a newly acquired summer job. And the couple, although they're holding hands, appear stiff, almost strangers by each other's side—perhaps a one-night stand or new affair. The moment the elevator door closes, my cell phone rings with a ringtone I'd assigned Ryan McThursten. After three days of waiting, I refuse to let his call go to voicemail
