233 Words
Despite their struggles, there were moments that gave Aurora hope. One evening, she found Sebastian sitting in the nursery, staring at the ultrasound photo pinned to the wall. His hand rested on the crib they had assembled together. “I’m terrified,” he admitted when he noticed her in the doorway. “I don’t know if I’m ready for this.” Aurora walked over and sat beside him, placing a hand on his. “Neither am I,” she said softly. “But we’ll figure it out. Together.” He pulled her into a tight embrace, and for the first time in weeks, Aurora felt a glimmer of the man she had fallen in love with. But deep down, a small voice whispered that their challenges were far from over. As Aurora entered her third trimester, her suspicions about Sebastian’s behaviour grew. He was still working late, still glued to his phone, and still distracted even when he was home. One night, as she lay in bed unable to sleep, she picked up his phone from the nightstand. It was locked, but a notification lit up the screen: “Can’t wait to see you tomorrow. – Sophia.” Aurora’s breath caught, her stomach churning. She placed the phone back down, her hands trembling. Was she imagining things? Or was the life they had worked so hard to build already beginning to fall apart?
