Building A New Life

218 Words
The secluded beach house was everything Aurora had dreamed of a modern architectural masterpiece perched on a cliff overlooking the ocean. Floor-to-ceiling windows framed breathtaking sunsets, while the sound of crashing waves created a lullaby that made the world outside seem like a distant memory. Yet, beneath its beauty, the house felt like a fragile sanctuary, a place too perfect for the messiness of their past. Aurora spent her mornings walking barefoot along the shoreline, the salty breeze tousling her hair as she tried to clear her thoughts. She wanted this new beginning to work, desperately so, but doubts clung to her like shadows. Every so often, her eyes drifted to the upstairs balcony, where she often saw Sebastian pacing on his phone, his voice muted by the distance. Sebastian, on the other hand, buried himself in work. His study, a sleek room lined with dark wood shelves and minimalist furniture, became his haven. From dawn to dusk, he was engrossed in conference calls and strategy meetings, the glow of his laptop illuminating his face even late into the night. “I’m doing this for us,” he would say when Aurora asked why he was working so hard. She wanted to believe him, but it felt like an excuse— shield against the intimacy they once shared.
