Chapter one ALLISON POV Allison, eighteen years old, finds herself in a dilemma when she is paired with her sister's love interest, and worst, he loves her sister dearly…. She is hated and seen as an enemy by her family, and worse, she is seen as a misfortune to her mate and treated poorly by him. Jason Princeton is the king and the ruler of Basin City. He and his family had a strong bond with Lane, and thus he had his eyes set on Aurora, Allison's younger sister. He hoped that in the mating ritual, they would be paired thus leading to his hatred for Allison when they got paired as mates. By law, she is supposed to marry him, and her child becomes the next ruler, but the law never says anything about killing her when she gives him his heir. "Once she gives me an heir to the throne, I will get rid of her and be with you," he assured Aurora in the presence of Allison. Now she is doomed; with her locked up, she has nowhere to run. What will happen next? Will she be able to escape? woke to the sound of Aurora shouting and her rampage carrying on. Her shouting removed the sleep from my eyes, causing me to wake up and get ready for my activities. I have many business partners I am meeting today, and I didn't want to keep them waiting. I was just about to get dressed when Aurora stormed in, looking at me all dressed. "You are still not ready. You are supposed to drop me off," she mumbled. "Drop you where?" I questioned, as I had no idea what she was talking about. "Today's the mating ritual, and you are supposed to go and get paired," she replied. "Did you forget about that too?" She questioned, folding her hands. "I don't know, Aurora. It's not like I did forget. It just felt pointless," I replied. "So you will miss this match too, like the rest?" She asked. "Do you plan on ever settling down?" She questioned further. "Yes, when I am away from here, at least a guy will get to look at me without comparing my beauty to my sister," I thought but looked at her calmly before creating another lie. "The moon goddess shouldn't be in charge of pairing. should let people meet and fall in love,". I continue, watching her roll her eyes. "Come on, sis. It would be best if you weren't talking about that trash. She pairs everyone right, pairs an arrogant with a calm person so he could work on his anger," she began explaining. "And for me, I know she paired me with the king because who else is a better fit in terms of character and beauty if not for my king," she boasted. "We plan on making our relationship after the mating ritual because it would be a perfect time to announce that we are dating," she said. "And we have our wedding the following month. I get crowned as queen, the position perfect enough for a beauty like me," she proudly said. "I wonder what would have happened if they were not mates, oh her disappointment, and I know the King won't know how lucky he was not getting married to her," I thought, looking at my sister, who was waiting for my response. "You forgot to add the point where you give birth to him," I teased. Aurora never mentioned the idea of pregnancy as she didn't want anything to ruin her body. "Mother, Allison is teasing me," she yelled. "Allison, be gentle on your sister. She is the reason you are living a fancy life," our mother shouted back. Her words hurt me. It was true, but it was never confirmed. I maintain the family wealth by going into business and bargaining with my partner. I am the one bringing me money. I'm beautiful too, not as angelic as her, but I am beautiful; they never acknowledge that. "Yes, and if not for her beauty added to the business, we would not have been wealthy," I sarcastically yelled. "Nathan, Allison talking back to me, "Our mother reported and I knew it would be him coming to my room. "You better stop it now," I warned Aurora. "Why would I? You always argue that you bring more money. I don't mind you punishing me," she mocked. "I'm the only one that can carry you to the king's Palace, except you don't want me to take you. You better stop," I threatened. "Daddy, don't bother coming. We were just playing a game," she yelled. "Are you sure honey?" Our father asked as Aurora looked at me. "Go on, answer, "I mumbled. "Yes Father, Allison is so gentle to me," she scoffed. "That's better," I muttered. "Now, wait in the living room. I will come after I get dressed," I said as she nodded, leaving. I hated them, I really did, and that is why, for the past few days, I have been buying my own house outside the city. I wanted to move, move to a place no one could find me. Today, I will check on the finishing and then the new Identity I created there. Soon, I will be able to leave this place and they will see, and they will see how important I was in this family and how it was always me who stabilized us. Packing my document, I finally headed out as Aurora followed me, entering the back seat. "What happened to the front?" I asked. "It gives people the room to see my beauty free of charge. I don't want that," she snapped as I signed, looking at the narcissist's being that came as my sister. "Besides, being the future queen, I'm just practicing for where I would see myself sitting in the car," she continued. I drove to the palace, where surprisingly, the King was waiting outside for her. Something smelled nice as soon as I parked the car, I checked inside the car “Did you change your perfume?” I asked Aurora who was getting ready to get down. “No, why did you ask? Are you looking for something?” she eyed me. “Don't worry,” I said, I don't need her getting more rude to me than she already was. I got out of the car with her and immediately my eyes and the king's eyes met, we said ‘MATE’ at the same time. Aurora looked between us digesting whatever was happening. “No, it is a lie, this can't be happening, he is supposed to be mine” she kept on ranting. The king stared at me from head to toe and stared at me with disgust in his eyes. I felt a sharp pain knowing my mate didn't want me but knowing too well about the mating bond, we don't have a choice. Aurora began to shed tears and walked out on us “I am sorry”. I told Jason wanting to follow Aurora but he stopped me. “We need to talk,” he said I paused. “You knew she wasn't your mate” he is older than her. “I don't care because I love her and I want to be with her,” he replied. I felt a pang of hurt in me “But I am your mate” I reminded him “You might be my mate but I care for your sister” he replied nonchalantly, not caring about the effect of his words on me. “Do your Wolf not want me to be his mate,” I wanted to know if his wolf was as selfish as him. “It's not about what he wants, I know what is best for my pack, for my land” he boasted. “I want to know what he thinks of me,” I begged. “Nothing is going to change how I feel about you, your sister will be my queen,” he said with no expression at all. “Is choosing her more important to you than having an heir?” I asked him and merely looking at him, I knew I had struck a nerve. It is one of our customary laws, that it's only one's mate that can provide an heir and not any random person. “I..…. I” he began to stammer not knowing what to say “It won't change the way I feel about Aurora” he managed to reply. I didn't want to look weak in front of him, so I ran away towards my car where Aurora was seated waiting for me. She was crying, which isn't necessary because he chose her and not me. The ride home was a quiet one, both of us didn't want to talk to each other. Immediately we got home, she ran to our parents “Why are you back so soon” they asked her. “She stole my man, she stole the Queen title from me” she cried to them pointing her hand at me. “You are being dramatic Aurora” She was acting childish. “He was mine before you came along, must you ruin my plans” she screamed at me “I was on my own before you came to me and forced me to drive you to him remember” I won't have met him “Mum, Dad, warn her to stay away from They both look at me “What is she talking about” they query me. “Jason is my mate,” I announced. “That is not possible, he is meant for your sister,” our mother said. “Is that how much you don't care about me,” I asked angrily. “She is your sister, Allison, her happiness should matter to you” my father roared at me. “Must everything be all about her every time” I shouted at them. “You are going to tell Jason that you don't want him” my father commanded. “Yes, you are going to reject him” my mother supported him. “I won't do such a thing, the mom goddess paired us up for a reason” I stood my ground. “You are just jealous of me that I am more beautiful than you and now you want to steal my man” Aurora yelled at me. “Are you listening to yourself, he is my mate and not yours” I reminded all of them in case they are forgetting. Aurora went back to her crying, making them ignore me and tend to her. I went to my room and I let myself cry out the pain and frustration. I plugged in my earphones shutting everyone out, what have I told to the moon goddess to provide me with such a family and a heartless mate?
