Chapter 39. Allegra

Allegra I'd been rotting in the cell for a week, as far as I could tell. There were no windows down there, so I had to rely on when I was brought food and when the guards changed shifts. I figured I'd been here for six days. Looking at the scrambled eggs and coffee I had been brought, I guessed that meant it was the morning of the seventh day. And morning meant my favorite guard was about to come on duty. There wasn't anything special about him, really. He was younger than the others, though, and was still struggling with his ingrained sense of politeness warring with their obvious orders to not engage with me.
