Chapter 84

1105 Words

REYNA Lucian’s body slumps back in the chair, his head tilting to the side, and his eyes rolling shut. “Lucian?” I whisper, though my voice is already shaking with dread. Leah had been thrashing on the bed for hours, caught between two halves of herself, glowing so brightly her body looks like it’s burning from the inside out. Lucian had been holding on, refusing to let anyone else near her, even when the light scorched his arms. And now, he’s gone too. My hand shakes as I reach out, brushing my daughter’s face. Her skin is hot, searing, like she’s holding fire under her flesh. Lucian’s arm hangs limp against the chair. They are both trapped, pulled into the bond. If they stay too long, they won’t come back. The thought strikes me in the chest so hard it nearly drops me to the floor.
