Chapter 3: The Interview

371 Words
Nicole sat across from Brad Sinclair, the man who had caused her so much anger that morning, and yet now she was here, in his pristine office, trying to convince him that she was the right person for the job. The irony wasn’t lost on her. She had gone from an accidental collision on the streets of New York to sitting before him in a corporate office. The entire situation felt surreal. She clenched her hands together in her lap, trying to mask her nervousness. She couldn’t let him see how rattled she was. His eyes studied her, seemingly appraising every inch of her, and it was almost impossible to tell what he was thinking. His gaze was sharp, almost cold, and it sent a chill down her spine. He had a way of looking at her that made her feel like she was under a microscope, like every word she spoke was being scrutinized. “So, Miss Lane” Brad said, his voice smooth, controlled, as if he was speaking to a colleague rather than a potential employee. “Tell me why I should hire you.” Nicole took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down. She had prepared for this moment. She had to make it count. “I have experience in management,” she began, her voice steady, “I’m efficient, dedicated, and I know how to handle pressure. I’m confident I could contribute to the team and make an impact here.” Brad leaned back in his chair, his fingers tapping rhythmically on the edge of the desk. “You seem confident. But you’ve never worked in a corporate environment before, have you?” “No, I haven’t,” Nicole replied, trying not to let her frustration show. “But I’m willing to learn. I’ve been in challenging situations before, and I know how to adapt. I’m resourceful.” Brad’s eyes flickered with something, maybe amusement, maybe doubt, and then he leaned forward, his expression turning serious. “Tell me about your background. Where are you from?”
