Alvara's pov
Two weeks later.
I have my final bridal fitting today, but I think I'll have to go spend some time with my mum before meeting with the bridal designer.
I haven't been involved in the wedding preparations. My dad planned this whole s**t, so he should also plan the wedding.
The only thing I am personally taking care of is my wedding dress. That's the one thing I refused to leave in someone else's hands. Even if I'm not happy about this wedding, I should probably look good on my wedding day.
I stared at myself in the mirror, already regretting why I agreed to this. I can't believe my wedding is in one week. In one week, I'll be walking down the aisle to meet Dorian.
“Now it's time to get ready”. I muttered to myself.
I went into the bathroom and took a quick shower. walked into my closet and immediately froze. I always get a panic attack when I get in here. Having so many clothes makes choosing an outfit very difficult.
After much thinking,I finally settled on a fitted black sleeveless top and a high waisted white pleated midi skirt paired with pointed toe heels and a small white shoulder bag.
I admired myself in front of the mirror for a while before stepping out.
The drive to the hospital was quiet.
I arrived at the hospital and quickly headed straight to my mother's room. I opened the door and immediately heard a familiar voice.
“I was wondering whom Alvara got her beauty from. As expected, she takes after you”.
My mom gave a soft laugh. “Actually, I do hear that quite a lot”.
Dorian?” Why is he here?
Dorian was seated on a couch while my mom was sitting on another couch holding a bouquet of flowers.
I quickly walked towards them and looked at Dorian.
“What's up with you?”
“Oh Alvara”. Mom dropped the flower on the table. “ You should have brought him to me earlier. It's been a long time since I saw him”.
“I came to pay my respects ”. Dorian replied
“Dorian is so admirable. Did you know that?” my mom asked.
I rolled my eyes.
“Someone was sending me flowers every single day, so I thought it was you. But it turned out to be him”. She exhaled loudly.
“when you get older, things like this are so heart fluttering and nice”. She couldn't stop smiling.
Dorian leaned forward. “mom, I'll make sure you get flowers every single day”.
“Really?” Mom was thrilled.
“Yes, so you can always feel that flutter”.
She laughed softly. “Then I'll be very grateful”. She picked up the flower again and started smiling.
I stood there watching my mom without saying anything. It feels good seeing her like this. It's been a while since I saw her smiling like this.
She stretched forth her hands. “Come here”.
I held her hands and sat beside her. “How are you feeling now”.
“I think I'm okay now”.
“Does that mean you'd be able to attend my wedding?”
“Of course, there's no way I'm missing my daughter's wedding”.
“Are you sure? I don't want you to push yourself too hard”.
“I'll be fine, Alvara. How's the preparations going?”.
“I have my final fitting later today”.
“Really? I wish I could see your dress before the wedding”.
“Don't worry, I'll make a video for you”.
She smiled. She turned to Dorian. “Dorian, you should go with her”.
He smiled. “I will mom”.
“There's no need for that”.
“Allow the young man to do the right thing. He's your fiancee”.
I rolled my eyes. “Fine”.
After enough talking, we decided to leave. I picked up my bag, and then a nurse immediately walked in with a tray of medication and a glass of water.
“Good afternoon”.
“Good afternoon”. My mom replied.
She placed the tray on the bedside.
“Ms.Hayes, it's time for your medication”. She gave her the medication and waited for her to take it.
“I'm afraid I'll have to tell you guys to leave. The doctor said she needs to rest”.
“Oh that's fine, we were about to leave”. I hugged my mom before stepping outside with Dorian. He gently closed the door behind us.
I turned towards him. “How did you know which hospital my mom was in”.
“You can't survive next to Alvara Hayes without at least that level of information gathering”.
I smiled. “my mom really likes it. It's been a while since I've seen her smile like that”.
He smiled softly. “it's the first time I've seen you smile like that too”.
My heart skips a beat. What is happening?
Why do my cheeks feel so warm? I shake my head quickly to get the feeling away.
“We should start going. It's almost time for the appointment”.
A few minutes later, we were standing in front of the biggest bridal shop in New York.
“I walked into the store while Dorian followed me from behind”.
The bridal designer immediately welcomed us. “Welcome, I'm glad you made it”.
I nodded. I hurried into the fitting room to get changed.
Dorian sat on the couch opposite the fitting room curtain.
A few minutes later, the curtain moved.
“Mr Dorian, she's ready”. The designer said.
I stepped out immediately.
Dorian was fazed.
“I think… it's beautiful."
He looked at the designer. “You're the professional, what do you think?”
“The model is flawless”.
“Yeah, but don't you think the bride's facial expression is a bit dark? Dorian asked.
“I'm not doing this with you Dorian”.
He laughed. “Come on Alvy, smile a little”.
Alvy? I tilted my head.
I ignored him and walked to the mirror to look at my dress.
After the adjustment was made, I quickly changed into my clothes. Dorian and I stepped out of the boutique together.
“Want to have dinner together? He asked.
“No I'm tired, I need to rest”.
He brought out something from his pocket and gave it to me. I glance at it. It's a small packet of pain relief patch.
“What is this for?”
“For your feet, you've been on heels the whole day”.
He actually noticed I was hurting? It's such a small thing, yet It made my heart flutter.
