“Angus, I would like to introduce you to my wife to be, Anna,” Connor said as he introduced both of us to each other.
“Oh wife to be? Nice to meet you, Anna,” Angus said as he stretched his hand trying to shake mine.
I returned the handshake trying to not show Connor that I also resented Angus and he was part of the main reason I ran away from my pack. “Nice meeting you too Angus,”
“Alright, both of you please excuse me, I need to go attend to someone,” Connor said as he kissed me on the cheek.
“Alright love,” I replied and smiled at him.
“Alright bro,” Angus said then gave Connor a bro hug.
Connor left leaving Angus and I alone which made us finally talk to each other after all these years.
“You look different,” he said with a smile.
“I can say the same about you,” I said to him trying to avoid eye contact.
“Been a while though,” he mentioned.
“Yeah, it’s been a while since you rejected me publicly in front of everyone and I ran away,” I said rolling my eyes.
He put his hand on my shoulder and quickly pushed it off. “Come on, don’t make it sound like that,” he said.
“How else should I make it sound? You openly rejected me knowing how much I loved you,” I said as I rolled my eyes.
“I had my reasons, Anna,” he said trying to justify his actions in the past.
“Alright then,” I said to him, trying not to argue about this conversation anymore.
“Is Connor aware that your father is Silas?” he asked.
“No he doesn’t, so please I’m begging you not to say anything to him,” I pleaded, overlooking my anger for him.
“Relax Anna, I’m not your enemy. If you say I shouldn’t mention it to Connor then yes, I won’t,” he said.
“Thank you,”
“But what did you tell him about your father?” he asked curiously.
I took a deep breath before I spoke, “I told him my parents were killed by my alpha,”
“How ironic don’t you think so?” He said with a slight chuckle
“Oh please,” I replied rudely, rolling my eyes.
“Anna, I can tell you are still angry at me about what had happened between us,” he said.
“You know what Angus? Yes, I am still angry. I am still angry that you rejected me in front of everyone after lying to me that you loved me,” I replied with tears welling up in my eyes.
“I know what I did was wrong, but I had a reason,” he said, trying to justify his actions once again.
“What reason if I may ask?” I asked him, still holding my tears in so he wouldn’t see me weak.
“Your father, Silas,” he mentioned.
“What happened to him?” I asked, confused by how my father had to do with everything.
“When I was younger he kidn*pped me from this pack after killing my father for helping Connor’s dad,” he began to explain.
“I don’t understand,” I said, shaking my head.
“My father was Connor’s father’s beta and as he tried to defend Connor’s father, he killed mine,” he said as he took a deep breath trying not to get emotional about it.
“I’m so sorry about that, how come you never told me?” I said.
“I was instructed to never tell you otherwise I would be killed,” he said, looking me in the eyes.
“Whoa, this is a lot,” I replied shocked by this whole revelation.
“Yeah,”
“About the rejection part, was it my father that made you reject me?” I asked because I wanted to know why. I’ve been asking myself the ‘why’ question all these years.
“No Anna,” he replied to me as he shook his head.
“Then how is he the reason,” I asked with an eyebrow raised, showing my confusion about the whole issue.
“I felt hurting his beloved daughter would make me feel better,” he mentioned after taking a deep breath.
“That only means one thing, You never loved me,” I said as I used my sleeve to wipe the uncontrollable tears that rolled down my cheeks profusely.
“I did but I only saw you as a friend then,” he said with a look of guilt on his face.
“Well, that’s enough,” I said, sniffing my nose.
“I’m sorry for what I had done Anna, you didn’t deserve it,” he said.
“I’m also sorry for what my father did to you, he keeps on ruining people’s lives,” I said as I looked up to him with my teary eye.
“No it’s fine,” he said as he gave me a hug patting my head.
“If it makes you feel any better, I ran away from the pack because of you,” he said with a chuckle.
“How is it because of me?” I said as I broke out of the hug.
“You leaving the pack motivated me a lot,” he said.
“Really?”
“I finally summoned the courage to run back to my pack,” he said as he laughed a bit.
“I’m happy for you,” I said with a warm smile.
“Friends now?” he asked me, stretching his hand forward for a truce shake
“Yeah, we’re friends now,” I replied as I joined my hands with his.
Ever since then, Angus and I became great friends as I remained in the pack. He looked out for me and I looked out for him. Weeks passed and the week for my wedding to Connor came by.
It was a night before the wedding and Connor organized an outdoor dinner with some of his friends. As we laughed and drank, Connor stood up for a toast.
“I raise this toast for my soon-to-be wife. Anna, I love y…” he froze as he saw something.
We all turned around to see what Connor had seen and it turned out to be a woman bruised with torn clothes on.
“Elisa?” Connor said confused by seeing her.
It was Elisa the lady Connor told me about that she had abandoned him for another man. “What is she doing here?” I asked myself.
“I need your help, Connor,” she muttered then fainted on the floor.
