The first chance & a last chance

1340 Common folk district, fountain Alicia Present day The coach was at the fountain already, they always met here because this was where the first day they spent together had come to an end. The fountain had become like a special spot in the capital city for them, she was happy she had convinced the others to make this fountain those years ago. She stepped out the carriage with her hair totally covered; she always covered her hair when they were in public because in all her time in Alicia she was yet to meet any others who were blonde. Her coach driver had gotten used to this. They were here every week on Friday evenings, driving from wherever she had been to perform her duties as Queen to the fountain. Jon had believed she was the Queen’s cousin this entire time and as such had understood why they could only meet on Fridays and occasionally on Saturdays, he understood she had duties and besides up till now they were still just friends. They clearly loved each other but Jon for reasons beyond her comprehension had not even confessed his feelings towards her, he either had no such feelings or was a coward and she had come to the final and stubborn decision that he was a coward and she would have to make the first move and hope he meets her halfway. She was a Queen and though he didn’t know that yet, it was who she really was. When she wanted something she tried to get it. She stepped out of the coach annoyed at Jon and everyone else and was using words a lady should never use under her breath; living in a world where men had to be the ones to declare their feelings was not fun. Society was not going to determine how her love life went when they could not correctly determine any of the other actually unimportant stuff. She walked towards the fountain briskly and recognized his long and pitch black hair at first sight, she was happy immediately; he had that effect on her. She was in a difficult predicament at the moment and had no actual way of overcoming it, she thought quickly yet deeply as she got close to him. How could she possibly explain everything to him when he did not even know she was a queen yet? She reached where he was and he smiled at her before taking her hand in his. They would not walk to his nearby house that was just around the corner but would walk down the street till they reached one of the many streams of water flowing through the city. The city was beautiful because of small things like that, people came from different kingdoms just to see the network of streams as they crossed, danced and weaved their way through the entire city. They got to the edge of the closest stream and sat on the small wooden bench that was carefully set beside the stream as it meandered peacefully past them; the spot like many others found all around the beautiful city were the favorite destinations for the many couples in the city from the outer ring to the middle ring and even the inner ring of the great city. They sat there for over 3 minutes without speaking or saying anything to each other and it was weird because they always had something to say to each other whenever they met. Meeting just once or twice in an entire week and for few hours meant they always enjoyed each other’s company and never got tired. She sat there staring blankly into the clear stream of water flowing calmly in front of them while he sat besides her just staring at her. He knew something was really wrong but had no idea what it could be. He cleared his throat noisily in a bid to get her attention even before saying anything. “Elle is there a reason you have not spoken a word to me this entire time? You cannot even look at me right now and it’s getting me worried.” Jon said in a calm steady voice but as she turned to look at him she could see he was actually really worried about her at the moment. “You members of a royal family can be so dramatic about stuff. Mi lady, speak to me and I might be able to make things better. As lowly as I am” he said in a bid to make her laugh and it almost broke her composure but she kept a tight lid on her emotions, she couldn’t help but smile though. A smile at this instance was better than a frown but less than a laugh, she knew she should not have smiled but she had lost her nerve for a second there. She regained control quickly and was looking at him with dead eyes again and an expressionless face. He was now totally sure he had offended her in some way he was yet to remember. “Jon I have not said anything to you since we got here because there is so much I have to say to you and so much you have to say to me, but so far I feel like I will end up being the only one to say anything because no matter what happens you seem to be unwilling to talk.” Elle said with a raise of her chin and squinting of her big beautiful eyes that got Jon even more confused. What exactly was she talking about he thought to himself. “This time however I don’t think you have much of a choice. This will be your first chance and maybe also your last chance to say something, so hear what I have to say and make your decision soon.” She said and then stood up from the wooden bench and walking closer towards the river. She was going to say it here and now but there was no rule forcing her to look into his dark eyes while saying it.
