Goodnight my lady

“I really do not understand how I just lost.” She said still looking shocked at what just happened. “You do not know this last dance I initiated, do you?” Jon asked with a curt laugh. “No, to be honest this is the only dance on the continent I probably have no idea about.” She said with a smile and a look of honesty on her face. “It looked straightforward though, I thought all I had to do was let you lead.” She said still not understanding. “You were to raise your left leg and wrap it around me when I let the right go and then fall back for at least 10 seconds while I held on to you that way. If you did not do that in less than 5 seconds I was automatically the winner because it meant you did not know the next step.” Jon explained with a bright smile “What was that dance? What kingdom is it from? I would like to learn it.” The Queen said “It’s the nuptae dance, it’s a dance performed by a newly wedded couple of the royal bloodline in Venera.” Jon explained “If that were true I would have known of it” she said expressing her disbelief candidly. “It is true and you can ask any member of the Veneran royal family when you meet one.” Jon stated confidently “there has not been a royal wedding there in over 20 years so you wouldn’t know that dance. I was the one who thought most people here in Alicia about it because I learnt it from my parents.” He added “I do not believe you and I will ask about it. If it is not true I will have you pay me a hefty sum for deception” she said with a smile that looked threatening. “That is fair, so see you tomorrow then. For now I am the winner and you are the one who is not the winner.” He said with a smile and stretched out his hand for a handshake. She had made a wager and was not one to run from anything, she took his hand in hers and shook him, she would be his servant for the final day of the carnival which just happened to be tomorrow. The very last day of the fair. It was going to be a long day she said to herself as she turned and began walking away from him. Jon stood there smiling to himself, he was sure he would win their wager and now he would have to spend the entire carnival day with a member of the royal family. He had been bored to hell for weeks but suddenly things were beginning to get exciting for him, very exciting. He hardly got excited and rarely ever showed any interest in anything, especially women even though he knew how to get them interested. From the look in his eyes, this particular lady had definitely gotten his attention and piqued his interest. As she walked away she felt a warm, strong hand gently hold unto hers, stopping her in her tracks and making her turn to see exactly who it was. “I just want to know your name before you go, is that okay?” Jon asked looking nicer than he did when she asked him to dance earlier; his features were softer and friendlier now. “Firstly, you should not be so friendly when I am going to be your servant tomorrow mi lord.” The still disguised and unrecognized queen said in a sarcastic way. “Then let us just be friends when we meet tomorrow, good friends by the end of the day if I may be so bold my lady.” Jon said placing a light as feather kiss on her hand that was still in his and now raised to his lips. “I believe we can try our best, both of us.” She replied with a genuine smile “My name is Elle, just Elle.” She added “What is yours?” “I am Jon Terra and not to pry but just Elle? That is certainly not the proper way to introduce you to a total stranger young lady.” He said letting her hand go slowly with a smirk, he was flirting with her and the look on Ferran’s face that had been there standing behind him for some seconds now was priceless, totally priceless. He was watching his always uninterested best friend showing real interest in a young lady in Nirvana for the very first time in a really long time. He couldn’t believe his eyes. “I am Elle Gradin, cousin to her royal majesty Queen Isabella the first. It was nice meeting you, even though I had to force us to meet.” she said with a laugh as Jon covered a part of his face with his right hand, he knew she was going to bring this up as many times as she could and it got him laughing as well. “I look forward to making a friend tomorrow” she said as she walked straight ahead to a decent looking single horse drawn coach parked just beside the town square with the other lesser looking carriages. Jon stood there as she got into the carriage and the horse began pulling it towards the road. He was smiling now, a pure and genuine smile. “Goodnight my lady.” Jon said loudly to be sure she would hear him as the carriage left the square slowly and majestically. He felt something hit him hard on the head; he turned with a look of shock on his face that quickly changed to anger as he realized Ferran had just slapped him hard at the back of his head. “Have a good reason for that or I will be beating you so hard in some seconds.” Jon said to his friend with all seriousness rubbing the back of his now sore head. “My reason is quite simple; you should not be trying to be friends with royalty. It’s not something an ordinary man within these walls should be doing; it will not lead to anything Jon. You should understand that” Ferran explained “That’s just a part of the main reason and the reason is all this while you never told me you could dance, you never even told me you liked girls. I thought you preferred your love relationships to be like what you have with Bernard.” Ferran said and they both burst into laughter. Bernard was Jon’s horse. Queen Isabelle watched them talking from her carriage as it was driven away from the town square, she had no idea when she started smiling or why she was actually smiling. She closed her eyes and she was back, she was back in her carriage and out of her thoughts. She was back to the present and out of her memories from the past. She remembered everything like it was just yesterday to her. She looked out the side of the coach and knew now there was still some distance to the fountain and for some strange reason that brought a wide and childish grin to her face. She sat back in her seat as the coach kept moving steadily and leaned her head back. There was one more memory she needed to dive into, she wanted to remember how it was spending their first day together. She remembered it fondly because it was a truly fond memory, it had been a magical and fun day at the carnival with her new mysterious friend.
