AWAKENING

The car halted in front of the mansion. The night air hung heavy and cold, but it did little to cool the heat radiating from the man beside me.
He got out first, his movements sharp and impatient, and came around to my side. The door opened, and before I could say a word, I was lifted into his arms.
“Darius— I can walk on my own,” I said softly, but he didn’t even glance at me. His hold only tightened. I felt his heart pounding against my chest steady, dominant, commanding. The air around him thrummed with Alpha energy, the kind that made everyone bow without thinking. But beneath that power, I could sense fear. Not of anything else… but of losing me.
I stopped protesting. Something about the way his arms wrapped around me felt too safe, too right to resist.
