TAKEN AWAY ♠ SYLVARA ♠ Everything was a blur. Sounds reached me like they were underwater muffled, distant, but insistent. There was shouting, I think. Someone was calling my name, over and over, like it was a lifeline I was supposed to grab hold of. My chest ached. It was tight, like a fist was clenched around my lungs, and there was something heavy in my throat. I tried to breathe, but I couldn’t. Panic flared in the corners of my mind, wild and sharp. I felt pressure on my chest, then lips on mine. I guessed that was an emergency procedure I’d always witnessed. Then suddenly a cough. A violent, wracking cough pulled me halfway into the world. Water rushed up, spilling from my mouth. I tasted chlorine and bile. I was choking as I slowly regained consciousness. What happened to me?
