Chapter 3 Kitchen adventures

After living in wolf territory for a while, Lily's grumbling little tummy was stirring again in the middle of the night. The hunger pangs followed her, making it difficult for her to sleep. Finally, Lily decided to venture into the packhouse's kitchen in search of food.
The night was eerily quiet, with only the faintest of moonlight streaming through the windows, and Lily slipped out of her room gingerly, like a cautious kitten, taking every step with the utmost care and fearing to make the slightest sound.
She crept closer to the kitchen door and pushed it gently, the door squeaked softly, which was very loud in the quiet night. Lily's heart was in her throat, she stopped nervously and listened carefully to her surroundings. After making sure that she hadn't attracted any attention, she slowly walked into the kitchen.
The kitchen smelled faintly of food, and Lily's eyes searched the darkness. She touched a cupboard and gently opened it, but it was empty. She turned to another corner and was delighted to find a basket of fruit.
Just as Lily reached for the fruit, a bright light suddenly snapped on, and she was startled.
“Who's there!” A stern voice rang out.
Lily turned her head in horror to see a tall werewolf holding a torch and staring sternly at her.
“I ...... I'm just so hungry.” Lily explained in a shaky voice, her hands gripping the corners of her coat tightly.
The werewolf frowned, a look of both anger and helplessness on his face.
“You little brat, don't you know that trespassing in the kitchen is not allowed?” The werewolf said.
Lily lowered her head, tears welling up in her eyes.
“I'm sorry, I'm really hungry.” She said with a sobbing voice.
The werewolf looked at Lily's pitiful appearance, and the anger in his heart gradually calmed down a bit.
“That's just it, let it go this time, but it won't happen again.” The werewolf said, then took some bread and jerky out of the cupboard and handed it to Lily.
Lily took the food and looked at the werewolf gratefully.
“Eat up and hurry back to bed when you're done.” The werewolf said, then turned and left the kitchen.
Lily devoured the food, feeling a sense of satisfaction as she filled her stomach. However, just as she was about to leave the kitchen, she heard a loud noise coming from outside.
Curious, she looked out the window and saw a group of werewolves gathered together, seemingly discussing something important.
Lily's mind was filled with curiosity as she quietly approached the doorway, wanting to hear more clearly.
“Recently some strange auras have appeared around the territory, we must step up our patrols.” A voice said.
“Could it be provocation from other wolves?” Another voice asked worriedly.
Lily was so absorbed in what she was listening to that she accidentally bumped into a jar by the door, which made a thumping sound.
The werewolves outside were immediately alerted.
“Who's there!”
Lily ducked under the table in fear, her heart beating rapidly.
A few werewolves rushed into the kitchen and searched around.Lily covered her mouth tightly and didn't dare to make a sound.
“Maybe it's a mouse, don't make a fuss.” One of the werewolves said.
Lily breathed a sigh of relief when she heard their footsteps leaving.
Only when it was completely quiet outside did Lily carefully get out from under the table and then quietly returned to her room.
Lying on her bed, Lily thought back to the night's adventure, her mind unable to settle for a long time. She knew that there were many unknown things waiting to be discovered in this mysterious wolf territory.
For the next few days, Lily would always think about the discussions she heard among the wolves that night, and she began to pay more attention to everything around her. At the same time, she's trying to build deeper friendships with the wolves, hoping to find her own place in this strange place.
And that werewolf power in her body seems to be becoming more and more active through these experiences, as if waiting for the right moment to fully reveal itself.
