The Truth That Changed Everything Some truths ask us to become smaller. She belonged to someone else. The truth did not arrive violently. It did not accuse him or shame him. It simply existed and stood in his way. There was no moment of denial. No anger. Just a quiet tightening inside his chest, like a door closing slowly but finally. Love did not disappear. It disciplined itself. He felt the shift immediately. A narrowing. A folding inward. Desire learned its place. Hope learned humility. Ifẹ́ kì í fun mi ní àṣẹ, ..Love does not give me permission. he told himself. He reminded himself that wanting something did not entitle him to it. That affection, no matter how sincere, did not justify disruption. That being seen did not mean being chosen. He chose decency over desire. Loyalty over longing. Silence over confession. Sometimes, at night, his thoughts rebelled. Ṣé ìwọ kò ṣe pataki? Don’t you matter too? He answered himself carefully. Mo ṣe pataki. Ṣùgbọ́n kì í ṣe ní gbogbo ìgbà ni a gbọdọ̀ gba ohun tí a fẹ́. I matter. But not everything we want must be taken. Sometimes maturity hurts more than honesty. But it leaves fewer scars behind.
