247 Words
Not all endings close doors. Some simply stop asking to be opened. Time moved forward, as it always does, indifferent to what had almost been. Days stacked themselves into months. Months learned the shape of years. Life continued with its ordinary insistence. She moved forward. Her life remained intact functional, recognizable. The choices she had made did not unravel. They held. From the outside, nothing appeared interrupted. She fulfilled her roles well. She smiled when expected. She kept promises. And yet, something subtle changed inside her. The question she had once carried stopped pressing for answers. Not because it had been resolved, but because she had learned how to live beside it. Some truths, she realized, do not demand action. They demand acceptance. He remained too. Not frozen in longing. Not wounded by bitterness. Just… full. Love had not ruined him. It had shaped him. It taught him patience where urgency once lived. It refined his understanding of dignity. It showed him that restraint could be an act of courage, that silence could be chosen without regret. Ifẹ́ yìí kò pa mí run, ..This love did not destroy me.. he reflected one evening. Sometimes he remembered her unexpectedly in a pause between thoughts, in the tone of a stranger’s voice, in the calm that followed being understood by no one in particular. The memories did not ache the way they once had. They rested. Some endings do not leave. They live inside us, quietly, without demand.
