CHAPTER FOUR

1164 Words
CARRIE “Girl! Wake up!” My eyes blink open still filled with sleep. I look up at the maid shaking me vigorously. I groan in annoyance. It feels like I am being woken up immediately after my head landed on the pillow to sleep. I can’t have gotten enough sleep to be woken up. “What’s the time?” I groan blearily. “It’s five o’clock. Hurry up, your chores start now.” Well that clears the sleep from my eyes. Five o’clock? Seriously? People wake up by five o’clock in the morning? The annoyance brims in me as I change in into one of those humiliating rags that I was given. Just as I am about to leave and join the Omegas, Terrence calls me. My jaw clenches at the sight of him. I resented him deeply. Him and his brothers. They put me in these disgusting, humiliating situations and for what? They still won’t tell me. I am confident that I have done nothing wrong to them. But I will bide my time, I will wait for an opportunity to pay them back for the way they had treated me. And I will love it. “Yes,” I say to him, ignoring the strands of pleasure I feel at seeing him and being so close to him. I focus instead on the anger and resentment. “You’re going to be working with the other wolves, as you well know. I’m just here to warn you to not reveal your true identity to anyone. And I mean anyone. You’re to lie that you are just a new slave that we bought. Do you understand me?” He gives me the most intense look that he has ever given me. I think of the consequences that I had incurred when I told the brothers my real identity. I don’t want to risk being treated like that by the other Omegas. “Yes, I understand.” “Good,” he said curtly. “Now get back to work.” The chores are very stressful, but there is just one respite. Pam. She was an Omega and the only friend that I have made since I arrived in this pack. She didn’t ignore me or treat me indifferently like the other Omegas. She has instead been very friendly to me and we hit it off instantly. She guides me through a lot of the chores that are being done, but I have never done chores in my life. So I find it difficult to keep up with the other Omegas. I also mess up a lot of the chores, bringing attention to me that I very sorely do not need or want. I am willing to learn, though, and I start to pick things up even though I do so very slowly. The head omega, however is a problem. He has hated me and been very rude towards me all the time I had been doing chores. I press my lips together when he launches into one of his tirades so that I won’t say something I’d regret. The head omega seems like someone that can give a person the hardest and the most stressful chores simply because he hates them. We move to the kitchen after we are done with the chores outside to peel and cut vegetables for the upcoming meal. Pam is beside me and she guides me on how to cut it well. I’m doing it slowly and gradually, but well and I smile in delight. But I look away for a second and the next thing I shout in pain as the knife makes a deep slice across my palm. Blood gushes out of the wound as I look in horror, the pain terrible. I am quickly hauled out of the kitchen and rushed to the hospital to get treated. The doctor is a calm man that slowly cleans off my wounds, disinfects it, before bandaging my hand. I am very grateful to him for this even though my hand still throbs because it is a sign that there are people in this pack that still care. Then I hear Terrence’s voice from the hallway. “What is he doing here?” I ask Pam beside me, getting alarmed. “He is the oldest Alpha,” she explains. “He has to be informed of everything that happens in the pack.” Terrence storms into the hospital room. “The two of you, out,” he says to Pam and the doctor. “I want to speak with her alone.” My heart sinks. There was no way this is going well for me. Pam gives me an apologetic look before slipping out of the room with the doctor. Once we are alone, Terrence paces for a few seconds before sitting in the chair across from me. “I know what you did,” he says. I furrow my brows in confusion. “What did I do?” He rolls his eyes. “Oh, please. Don’t f*****g play dumb with me. You know exactly what it is that I’m talking about.” “I really don’t know what it is you’re talking about.” I am supremely confused by all this. “You hurt yourself on purpose so that you can get out of your chores.” My eyes widen in shock at this outrageous accusation. I am about to say something in my defence but he cuts me off. “Save the bullshit. I know that that’s what you did. But that’s not going to work. You’re going to do the rest of your chores.” “But I’m injured!” I protest with outrage. I’m burning with rage right now. “You brought this on yourself. Next time don’t resort to hurting yourself to get out of chores.” “I didn’t do it on purpose!” But nothing I say will convince him. He has already made up his mind and he’s sticking to it. “I just want to know. Why are you being mean to me? Doesn’t the fact that I’m your mate mean anything to you?” Terrence’s eyes widen a bit. This is this is the first time I’m bringing it up that we are mates and I’m sure he would prefer for it to not be brought up at all. “You will pay for everything that your father has done,” he says. “My father was a good man!” I shout, automatically coming to his defence even in death. He growls and picks me up from the bed by my neck, slamming me into the wall. His hand squeezes savagely at my neck as he gets very close to my face. He pants and huffs, his breath on my face. “I never want to hear your father’s name ever again,” he spat out. And then he let me go and stormed out of the hospital room.
