Hot tears slid down her cheeks as they stared at each other. Kiremi's wounded face wore so much compassion that made Sparrow feel guilty the more. He doesn't deserve this. Then from the corner of his lips, he let out a smile seeing that Sparrow was well and alive. He was kneeling but slightly bent forward before Sparrow who was kneeling on one knee. "Kiremi, you..." Sparrow gulped heavily as her hot tears flooded her face. Kiremi wished he could wipe those tears off her beautiful face but he couldn't even move his own hands. He cursed himself inwardly for failing to save Sparrow. "You should have just left with Kisha. They are wolves." "I couldn't leave you behind Sparrow. Kisha left. They said 'don't save anyone who gets lost in the jungle' but I didn't believe them. I knew you were never lost." "Ah—Kiremi." Sparrow cupped Kiremi's face with her hands. Deep traces of concern on her face. The thought of having a friend's life in danger because of her carelessness made her think of killing herself, not sure if she can live with the guilt if anything happens to Kiremi. "Even at the expense of your own life? They are wolves." From the corner of her eyes, she saw the harsh gaze of the wolves. "You shouldn't have come." "I had no other option because you are right here..." Kiremi crouched his chin downwards to point its tip to his chest. "In my heart Sparrow. If I leave you out here alone in the wild and something happens to you without my effort in saving you, then I'll never forgive myself." Alpha Raven was pricked in the heart when he heard those words. His insides churned with so much jealousy that his wolf revolted within him, threatening to kill Kiremi for crossing paths with his mate. Are they going to start a love confession? How dare Kiremi speak to his mate in that way right before him! He's seeking his very own death! Alpha Raven fumed but decided to calm himself as he was not yet sure if the human is his mate. No one in the pack would believe it. It's been ages since they mated humans and for the alpha to return with a human as his mate to the pack would bring chaos. Mating humans was long banned in the packs of North Aremoth. Alpha Raven decided to interrupt the intense moment. "We will take him as a slave for the field." He actually intended to keep him far away from Sparrow and keeping him as a field slave was the best option. "Alpha!" Karen snapped. "What are you doing?" "What do you mean?" Sparrow and Kiremi were already distracted as their eyes were locked on the team. Sparrow understood what he meant but Kiremi was lost. "Does this human look healthy to you? This skinny waifish human is who you want to take in as a slave? He's better off as meat." "What?" Sparrow shouted. Not only were they going to forcefully take Kiremi as a slave but this barbaric Karen was suggesting that they eat him. What sort of savagery was this Karen made of? So feral and crude! Our of all the other three wolf humans, he is the only one that has intricate wolf tribal tattoos all over his skin including his face showing his lethality. How can he suggest for a human to be eaten as meat? "Why don't you cut off your own arm and roast it for meat since you are so eager to eat human flesh!" Sparrow barked. "You think so?" Alpha Raven asked. The question was directed at Karen. It was a great idea to separate Sparrow from Kiremi so she'll give him her undivided attention while working as his slave. From the corner of his lips, Karen let out a sly smile before nodding in confirmation to alpha Raven. "We already have more than enough field slaves and from the situation of the forest today, we might not catch any wildlife since the sun will be setting any moment from now. We won't starve of course." Sparrow was stunned. Her expression stiffened as she watched their faces. She can't believe they were here discussing how to eat a human. Strong repulsion overshadowed her emotions and she wished she could just kill the obvious bad egg, Karen. Alpha Raven turned to his shadow. It was becoming much shorter signalling the start of the end of the day. Sparrow gripped Kiremi's shoulder in an attempt to protect him as Karen came closer. "Don't you dare touch him!" Sparrow warned. She knew what was going to happen next and she isn't going to let that happen. She crawled backwards with Kiremi with each step that Karen made Kiremi's fright was visible on his face and body as he tried to get Sparrow's attention but she was bent on protecting him. Karen wore a devious grin as he continued approaching them. Foolish humans. She thinks she can save her lover now. Alpha Raven thought. "Sparrow." Kiremi whispered into Sparrow's ears. "I have a silver weapon. Let's save ourselves with it." Karen at this point pounced forward immediately and grabbed Kiremi by the arm when he saw he was whispering to Sparrow. He clutched his arm tightly that his claws dug into Kiremi's flesh, drawing out blood. Kiremi screamed in pain. Despite being in severe pains already, Karen still thought it great to inflict more painful injuries on him. Sparrow was thrown into rage from Kiremi's screams which reverberated in her mind and caused her to act on impulse. From behind, Sparrow sighted a silver dagger in Kiremi's sheath which was laced onto his pants. She pushed forward with much speed which she didn't know where she'd gathered it from. She pulled out the silver dagger and stabbed Karen from behind. She didn't strike where she'd targeted. Her dagger had stabbed his arm again, the exact spot where she'd stabbed him before. The pain from direct contact with silver shot through Karen and elicited a loud painful groan from his mouth which rang through the forest. He let go of Kiremi who dropped heavily to the floor with the sudden release. He grabbed his stabbed arm and gnashed his teeth in pain. Sparrow stood far aiming to grab the dagger again and pierce Karen's heart accurately when her face was met by sharp bronze claws. She dropped heavily to the floor from the impact and rolled on the grass. The stalks of the grass brushed against her wounds intensifying the pains she was already in. Her whole body ached. Fresh blood began to drop from the deep claw marks on her face as she struggled to stand on both feet again. Her side bones had suffered the most impact from falling to the floor and it was throbbing her whole body. Her breathing became unsteady as the pains shot through her body. She turned to find it was Oben who struck her. In place of his cold face stood a long dark snout and long canines that looked so eerie, scaring Sparrow to her wits. His steel blue eyes were glowing much brightly along with the angry growl coming from his throat. His claws had Sparrow's fresh blood on it which dropped to the floor at intervals. Alpha Raven shuddered at the gruesome sight. His wolf fumed seeing his mate in pains inflicted by his fellow. This situation was somewhat beyond his powers but he had to do something before Oben kills Sparrow or his wolf pushes out to attack Oben.
