Two long hallways and one art exhibit later Cyra finally made it to the room with the staircases. Hanging directly from the middle of the ceiling was a golden chandler and on each wall in the room was an angelic painting with a gold and black frame. On the furthest end of the room there were three sets of different colored stairs just as the man had told her. One set was draped in green carpet that led to two black double doors, the other set had blue carpet with silver double doors and the final set had white carpet with one singular emerald stone door. There were too many options and too many colors making Cyra forget which path the man told her to follow. Left with no other option, she gave it her best guess.“I remember he said something about green but I can’t remember if he said green door or steps. Out of all three the green door looks the most like there would be a changing room on the other side. If I’m wrong I’ll just take the other stairs until I find the bathroom.” Cyra said to herself as she began her walking up the white carpeted stairs, leaving behind her suitcase.
After reaching the top of the stairs she pushed at the giant door only to find that it was locked. Annoyed Cyra began her descent back down the stairs.
“So green stairs it is……..now that I think about it, that must have been one of those business rooms the waiter was telling Beatrice about. That door was just too fancy for a changing room.” She said to herself lost in thought.
Without warning a loud, boom yanked her out of her thoughts. Cyra snapped her head around to see where the loud noise came from. At first there was nothing, it was completely silent and only the sound of the door squeaking could be heard. Out came five Korean men who were all laughing and clapping while leaning on each other, very obviously drunk. The air quickly turned musty and the smell of alcohol began to pollute the air. Each one of the men had a distinct trait about them. One man was missing his left eyeball, another man had a scar going across his entire face, and the only thing special about the other three men was their size.
As Cyra looked at each man she accidentally made eye contact with the tallest man in the group who had stringy pasta like hair. As fast as she made eye contact she broke it with the same speed. It was obvious to her that these men were dangerous and drunk but before Cyra could continue down the stairs the man with one eye began to speak.
“Dangsin-eun eolin sonyeoleul ilh-eossseubnikka?” The man said.(Are you lost little girl?)
Cyra had been learning Korean and Spanish for the past seven years and eventually earned a seal of bilingualism and trilingualism. Even though she can speak other languages she always chooses to hide it , she believes that it is safer for people to think you don’t know what they are saying.
“Hello sir, do you know where the changing room is?” She asked in English.
Silence filled the air as the man just stared at Cyra with a puzzled look.
“Ahhhhh, you speak Englishh right?” He questioned.
“Yes and I’m looking for the changing room but I think I’ll just go back and ask the waiter. Thank you though!” She said as she quickly turned to start down the stairs again. Before she could take another step the man quickly spoke again.
“No need for that.” He said taking a few steps closer to Cyra .
“We can take you there………” He paused
“You know, you are just my type, I like your kind.” He said as he placed his hand firmly on Cyras shoulder.
She began to internally panic, not only was she alone and far from everyone else in the restaurant but she also was outnumbered.
“This man is more than triple my size and is heavily drunk so there was no telling what he will do and if I’ll be able to stop him. It’s better if I just keep walking and act oblivious” She thought to herself.
