Chapter 17- It’s Like You’re in Love

1332 Words
Kevin was unwilling to accept it. Elena didn’t want him before, but she didn’t have another boyfriend, either. He could at least console himself with the fact that she must have regretted not being with him and that was why she didn’t date other men. But the man in front of him was different. Elena was very cute, but she was always a little heartless in front of him. But in front of this man, she acted like a little girl. “What nonsense?” Elena stared at Charles angrily. “I didn’t say anything.” He looked innocent. “Come on, why are you looking at me?” She asked impatiently. “Well, Elena, I went to the police station, to try and bail Maggie out of jail, but they wouldn’t let her go. Do you really want to sue her?” Kevin was dismal. Elena gave Charles a look. Kevin’s family was well-off, but he still couldn’t save Maggie Lee. It looked like Charles Luke had told the police something. “Yeah, I’m going to sue her.” Elena nodded, not wanting to say much to him. “She better be prepared for a long stay.” “I’ll get the best lawyer for you,” Charles said casually. “You’re going to ruin her.” Kevin looked at her disbelievingly. “Elena Hayes, are you really going to ruin her life because of such a trivial thing?” “Kevin, you have two different types of standards.” Elena looked at him confused. “Didn’t you see Maggie ruin my life when she falsely accused me? I’m defending my rights, but you think I’m ruining her? Oh, that’s right. She’s your girlfriend. Of course, you would help the one who are sleeping with instead of the one who is right.” “I...” He was so overcome that he could not speak. Charles looked at her in astonishment, a brighter smile playing on his lips. When this little girl was provoked, she would suddenly become eloquent, or so as long as her bottom line wasn’t touched, she did not care too much. When she was serious, she looked really lovely. “But... Elena, you weren’t like this before.” Kevin looked at her in complete shock. “It’s clear you were a gentle, kind, generous girl. Why did you completely change? Why do you have to make things difficult for Maggie?” Elena was very angry. She didn’t really want to sue Maggie, but at least she needed to teach her a lesson. However, Maggie hadn’t even been at the police station for long when Kevin couldn’t wait to denounce her as the actual victim. By doing this how would Maggie learn anything? His point was probably just to make her feel like her actions were justified. “You’re wrong,” Elena said, rolling her eyes. “I am a grumpy, vicious, small-minded person. Now, can you please stop pestering me?” “Please move out of the way.” Charles opened his mouth. Kevin’s heart was filled with jealousy. He became outraged. “Didn’t you hear her? Why are you still with such a woman?” “No.” A smile curved Charles’s lips. “I love her for being grumpy, vicious, small-minded.” Kevin stood still, dumbstruck. Charles wrapped his arm around Elena, who appeared a little confused, and walked past him. She could feel the heat of his hand on her shoulder, Elena blushed slightly as she struggled to move away from Charles’s hand. “Knock it off! He’s still watching us,” Charles spoke softly. She stopped instantly and she intuitively wanted to turn her head around to take a look. Charles continued, “Don’t look back. He’ll think he’s on your mind.” That comment immediately halted her compulsion to look back. But... why did she feel her face getting hotter and hotter as Charles held her like that? “That... you were just trying to help me out, weren’t you?” She asked uncertainly. She was really flustered by his statement that he liked her for being vicious and small-minded. His eyes falling on her face, he said “yes” in a low voice. Elena was disgusted by him, and if he told her he really liked her, it would definitely scare her away. “Good. Thank you.” Elena was relieved. Charles’s eyes darkened. Arriving at the school gate, she whispered, “Can… can you let me go now?” “He’s still behind us,” Charles said quietly. “Kevin’s still following us?” Elena was more or less surprised. When did Kevin become so fearless and dare to follow her? “Yeah.” He nodded gravely. She felt a twinge of doubt in the heart. She abruptly turned her head around. Where was Kevin? There was a tremendous surge of anger in her heart. She finally realized that it was clear Charles had been trying to take advantage of her! She pushed him away angrily. “You bastard! Liar! Who’s following us?” Charles withdrew his arm regretfully. “I was only guessing.” “...” She was furious. Every time Charles opened his mouth, he would leave her speechless. “Don’t follow me again. I don’t need you to accompany me!” she yelled in anger and ran to the dormitory. No sooner had she returned to the dormitory than her phone rang. It was a strange phone number that she had never seen. She hesitated a bit before pressing the answer button. “Back to the dorm?” When Elena heard the familiar voice, she was so dumbstruck that she almost threw the phone away. “How did you get my number?” she asked angrily. She regretted asking him. He was Charles Luke, and it was a piece of cake for him to get her phone number. “You left your number in the preliminary selection,” Charles explained. Then he asked again, “Are you back?” “Yes. What do you want?” she asked cautiously. “Nothing. I’m relieved that you’re back safely. Keep my number, so you can contact me any time.” Charles laughed. “I’ll leave. Goodbye.” She was a little stunned. That’s all? Suddenly, she thought of something and rushed to the balcony. Standing on the balcony, she caught sight of Charles downstairs. He was really very eye-catching, with a slender body and a temperament that made it very hard for people to take their eyes off of him. Even his back looked handsome. He was gorgeous like a picture. Did Charles just want to get her home and then phone to confirm she had arrived safely? Her heart was filling with strange thoughts and emotions. As soon as she turned around, she saw Winnie and Selene standing silently behind her, she screamed in terror. “What are you doing? Why didn’t you say something?” Elena put her hands on her chest. “We did say something, didn’t we? You just came in and we both said hi to you. You were in a hurry to answer the phone. You couldn’t hear us, and then you rushed to the balcony, like, like…” Winnie wondered what to say. “It’s like you’re in love!” Selene concluded and asked curiously, “Elena, do you have a boyfriend?” Elena was very embarrassed despite herself. “Something is wrong. Elena, didn’t you go to meet Mr. Luke?” Winnie asked in surprise. “Mr. Luke? Which Mr. Luke? Charles Luke?” Selene lost her cool instantaneously. “What’s going on? What did you two hide from me?” It turned out that Winnie didn’t really tell Selene. Elena ran out the door of the dorm while they were arguing. “Go ahead, I’m going to the library!” “Elena, come back and explain it!” Selene and Winnie chased her, but Elena had disappeared quickly.
