Chapter 4: Alpha King

2178 Words
Aurora’s POV “Mate,” A familiar handsome face appeared in front of me. Tingles shoot all over my body while I feel excitement rushing through my veins. His delectable scent invaded my nostrils and I find myself inhaling deeper, wanting to feel his touch on my skin again. Yet I took a few steps backwards when I noticed that he was coming towards me. “You are pretty stubborn, little one.” He slowly approached me with dangerous steps. The surrounding felt bleak as my eyes stay glued on his beautiful form. I continued stepping backward, until I felt a strong force refraining me to go further. His red lips curled, while his eyes looked straight on mine. “You can’t escape from me.” I wanted to say something, but an unknown force was depriving me to do so. I suddenly couldn’t move my lips while I stay glued on my spot, until he finally closed the distance between us. “You can’t resist our bond.” His long, slender yet rough fingers cupped my chin lightly, making me raise my head to look up at him. My knees trembled with the sensation I was currently feeling. The tingles on my chin continued shooting all over my skin down to my spine. And his scent was even stronger with our current proximity. He looked so handsome up close, and I couldn’t take my eyes off him even just for a second. I could only hear the heavy pounding of my heart while I indulged over his scent and the warmth oozing from his body. “I will find you.” The ground rustles body slowly tumbling along the force of the pack of wolves running and passing through my… hut. Wait what? I grunted, squinting my eyes open while feeling my temples throb. How long did I even sleep? My head hurts like hell. I feel like my sleep only lasted for less than an hour and my head was drowsy. This was the first time I had headaches. Perhaps it was because of lack of sleep. I wasn’t able to sleep immediately last night. I mean, who wouldn’t be? Other werewolves would immediately pounce and get touchy once they meet their mates, wanting to finally feel their long-awaited moment. But I was not like them. Because out of all choices I had to choose from, I decided to ran away from my own mate. I can still feel the rejection and sorrow, coming off from him and… myself. Perhaps it was because of the bond that I can feel some of his emotions. I was longing for his presence and touch. But after recalling how I ran away from him last night, my heart feels as if being squeezed. How did he feel last night? I could still remember his sorrowful howl after not being able to run after me. Perhaps, he may think that I don’t want him. And even think that I wanted to reject him. However, my mate is an alpha. I was sure of that. And with his looks and power, for sure he could immediately find another shewolf to replace me. Or perhaps he already has one, before he met me. Perhaps that was why he didn’t even bother to enter our pack to find me. Maybe he realized that I was not a loss. There was a bitter taste in my tongue, my temples throbbed even harder after all these thoughts came to my mind. I sound desperate after all this overthinking. I didn’t even expect to find my mate at such an unexpected time. I was planning to leave this pack, and just mingle along with humans. I have the perfect escape plan. And I shouldn’t let one incident ruin all efforts I put into just so I could escape this hell. In fact, my mate may look interested on me last night, yet I know that once he knows my real identity, I would be the one to get rejected first. I am an abomination. But I wouldn’t let my pride be stepped on after being rejected. They say rejection between mates hurts like hell, and I don’t want to experience that. I’ve been through a lot of hell, but a rejection. No. I’d rather be away from my mate who doesn’t want me and let the bond disappear on its own so I can live peacefully… and avoid the pain of rejection. ‘But, is that even possible?’ A certain part of my mind retorted. A heavy sigh escaped my lips before I brushed my palms on my face. Whatever. The most important thing right now is, to continue my plan and escape this hell. “WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!” I couldn’t help but snap after seeing Andrew standing in front of my old-rotten hut. My fingers started shaking as I tried to calm my blood that was starting to boil. “Rora, I-” “Have you forgotten what I told you last time?” I cut off his words, pursing my lips tight. “I do not want to see you appearing in front of me, ever again, Andrew.” After spatting those harsh words, I forcefully slammed the door in front of his face loudly. I walked back inside the hut and tried calming down my nerves. But when I noticed that he was still staying outside, I started getting annoyed again. What does he even need from me? He was quite stubborn for sure. I had cut all ties with him way back in the past. I don’t even understand why he’s looking for me at this moment. Or perhaps, he needs something from me? That could only be the reason why he keep attempting to talk with me since last night. I scoffed. “Just please listen to me, Rora.” I slumped on the hard wooden bed, leaning my back on the cold wall while looking sharply at the closed door a few meters away from me. “An important visitor will arrive here tonight. Everyone will gather together later at the pack grounds to welcome and honor him.” Upon hearing his words, my back immediately turned stiff. A visitor is coming? Although I hate Andrew, I know that he isn’t one to bluff about things. There’s a strong possibility that someone is indeed coming. But who could that be? My palms turned sweaty as the handsome face of my mate popped in my mind. It couldn’t be him, right? My chest pounded heavily as I shook my head to get rid of my thoughts. It was impossible. “But you’re an exception. You will not be summoned tonight to join them.” I pursed my lips, what was even Andrew’s purpose of telling me all of this? “Is that all you want to say?” I spoke coldly, but I clearly know that he could still hear my voice even from outside. “No,” Andrew paused. Silence followed after that until I heard the sound of door being pushed. I jumped off from the bed before I looked angrily at Andrew who has already gotten inside my hut. “Well, I wasn’t informed that the beta of Wellington Pack was a shameless one.” I spoke through gritted teeth before pointing outside. “Get out, Andrew.” “Rora, just please this once.” He looked at me pleadingly and I narrowed my eyes at him. “Now you know how to plead?” I chuckled sarcastically, “Tell me, what do you want from me?” Andrew stayed on his spot, he looked at me seriously. “I know your plan.” “What plan?” I was a bit taken back by his words, but I did my best to feign ignorance in front of him, although my nerves were already shaking. “Rora, I can help you escape.” I looked at him blankly, my face devoid of any emotion before I scoffed. “Why should I believe you?” This time, I didn’t bother to put on pretense. It seems that Andrew really knows of my plan, and perhaps… Kaden also do. So, my plan has already failed before I even get to start? “Kaden is not aware. He doesn’t know.” My brows quirked up, not because of his statement but the way he addressed Kaden with his name and not with his title. “I’m quite surprised,” I smirked at him, “What would be Kaden’s reaction if he hears you addressing him with his name and not his title?” Andrew was unfazed, and I looked at him with an arched brow. “You know that jerk is obsessed with everyone bowing down to him.” “Yes.” I narrowed my eyes at him. This time, my patience was slowly wearing off. “What do you really want from me, Andrew?” Andrew let out a sigh, before he quickly took a quick glance outside. Then I heard some shuffling noise outside. Some patrol guards were probably coming towards this way. I could see Andrew frowning hence I snapped at him. “Are you planning on staying here and let them see that their respected beta is still having contact with his abomination of a sister?” “Rora,” Andrew stared at me with a serious face. “We can’t talk any longer, since they might hear our conversation.” “It’s good to hear that you’re finally leaving.” I walked back towards the bed, not sparing him a glance anymore. “Later tonight at exactly midnight, there would be no patrols at the south-west border. You can run towards its direction so no one will notice your leave.” I blinked my eyes hard, my throat felt tight while hearing his words. Is Andrew truly helping my right now? Or is this all a trap he made with Kaden? “Please, believe me just this once, Rora. I know that you don’t trust me, but I can assure you that I will back you up tonight.” Assurance? The last time he promised me with such assurance ended up being a bluff. I wanted to refute his words, but I was too tired to argue with him again. I waved my hands at him, signaling him to go out. “Please leave.” “An estimated 30 kilometers away here southwest, there is a small cabin behind a large oak tree. Inside it where the things I bought for you. You can use them once you arrived at the human town.” My head buzzed with all the mixed emotion I felt. I don’t even understand why Andrew was doing all of this suddenly. I was confused but at the same time, doubtful. “I know that I have made huge mistakes in the past. That I have failed you as your brother. I want you to know that I am regretting every decision I made in the past, Rora. I hope you can forgive me in the future.” I didn’t bother to respond to him anymore until he finally left the hut. Lying down on the bed, Andrew’s words keep replaying back in my mind while I shut my eyes tight. Should I believe him? NIGHTTIME came and I could already hear the busy pack running around the pack grounds. Patrol guards keep passing through my hut as they exchange shift. On the other hand, I was fully prepared for my escape. I won’t bring any things with me since I have already made arrangements at the human town I was going to. This afternoon, I finally made up my mind to make a stake on Andrew’s words. I decided to believe him, but I won’t follow the path he wishes me to take. Better be safe than sorry. As midnight comes closer, I could feel my muscles and nerves tensing up. Perhaps it was because the time of my escape is slowly approaching. But something else seems to be irking me up. I knew it has something to do with the visitor approaching. A part of me was still hoping that the visitor will turn out to be my very own mate. But with my current circumstances, it would only create conflict to my plans. Besides, thinking about him being the visitor of this pack would be absurd. If he really wanted to go after me and claim me from my pack, then he wouldn’t need to go such troubles such as making the whole pack welcome him. In fact, such a huge welcome banquet is only held for werewolves with high rankings. But an ordinary alpha wouldn’t receive such honor from a whole pack… Unless that werewolf is the alpha king. Before I could even ponder, the sound of heavy footsteps approached my hut until I hear the door being pushed strongly. “Witch, you are being summoned at the pack grounds.” Just what the hell?
