CLARA'S POV I just wanted to ask him for a ride one more time. I thought maybe if he had calmed down, he would agree. Nothing prepared me for what I was about to see. I knocked first, then pressed my hands against the cold glass and leaned in to look. The tint was dark, but the late afternoon sun caught the windshield at just the right angle, and I saw him. Jaxson was sitting with his head thrown back against the leather seat. A figure was on her knees between his legs. I ripped my hands away from the glass, but it was too late. He looked up at me; so did she. I recognized her right away; it was Sloane. My head caught fire; my stomach flipped completely upside down. I turned and ran as fast as I could across the parking lot, and I burst through the heavy wooden doors of the library.
