I slammed the door shut before he could finish; my heart was beating like a thousand drums.
"OH OHHH SOMEONE IS GETTING FIRED TODAY!" Jaxson's voice thundered.
I heard his heavy footsteps heading straight for the stairs. I grabbed a sheet and threw it over Maya. "Stay hidden!" I hissed and ran out the door toward him. "JAXSON, WAIT!"
He didn't stop; he was already halfway down the grand staircase. "No. You are leaving right now."
"Jaxson, please. I need this job. My mom is —"
