Across town, in the Police Department’s forensics Lab Three, a soft chime on a computer screen began beeping incessantly. It took a full minute for the sound to register in Joe Weiser’s brain. Bent over a powerful microscope studying blood sample slides, when he finally heard the chiming, his head shot straight up, and he stared at the barren wall in front of him for a second. But then he twisted around on the lab stool he was sitting on and stared at the large-looking desktop computer sitting on a far side table.
