Kaden looks at me like I’ve just pushed a sword straight through his chest, and the moment our eyes meet, I feel a stab of regret. That was a foolish thing to say to him, given the circumstances. I close my eyes, slowly blowing air through my pursed lips, imagining that Kyra's neck is trapped in my grip, and I'm bashing her head in. Her audacity to throw me out of the Alpha house.
I lean my back against the car, the metal now jarringly cold. Kaden shuts his door quietly and comes to lean beside me. Together, we stare at the mouth of the alley we just escaped from, the darkness yawning like something that wants to swallow us back inside. I'm not sure about Kaden, but it feels embarrassing for me to be here at this moment. We both look like delinquents sent out of the shelter
