Chapter 2 – Dorms and Tension The corridors of Nightfall Academy were dimly lit, lanterns casting flickering shadows against the black stone walls. Lyra’s boots echoed as she walked, flanked by her new friends: Mira Thornwood, Jaxon Hale, and Elara Nightveil. Every step carried a weight she hadn’t anticipated. Here, even walking down a hallway could feel like entering a battlefield. Mira leaned close, whispering, “You’re going to need to keep your guard up. People here… they don’t just look—they evaluate, judge, and plan. And some of them? They’ll try to take what’s theirs by force.” Lyra nodded, her gaze flicking toward the shadows. Her four rival mates were nowhere in sight at the moment, but she could feel the tug of the mate bond. Even when distant, it hummed through her chest, a constant pull she couldn’t ignore. When they reached her dorm room, a sleek space with black and silver accents, Mira nudged her playfully. “Welcome to your battlefield. Your room will be your sanctuary… until someone tries to steal it.” Jaxon chuckled. “And by someone, she means one of them.” Lyra smiled faintly, brushing her hair back. “I’m not afraid of anyone. I’ve survived my father’s training. I can handle four boys.” Elara raised an eyebrow, smirking. “Four very powerful boys. That’s a little different from your father’s pack, don’t you think?” Before Lyra could answer, the door to the dorm hall creaked open. Kael Draven appeared first, leaning against the frame, eyes flashing gold. He didn’t speak, just stared, possessive energy radiating from him like heat from a fire. Lyra’s pulse quickened. She had expected him to be aggressive, but the intensity in his gaze was almost overwhelming. “Kael,” she said evenly, refusing to let him see her nerves. He growled softly. “You’re mine.” Lyra crossed her arms, holding his gaze. “Not even close.” Before Kael could respond, Lucien Valtieri glided into view, pale elegance in motion, crimson eyes flicking over her like a predator assessing prey. His smirk was sharp. “Claiming her already, Kael? How predictable.” Azrael Noctis appeared from the shadows, a teasing grin plastered across his face. “Oh, this is going to be fun,” he purred, voice low and dangerous. Finally, Orion Emberfang emerged from behind a column, gold eyes locked on her. He didn’t speak, but the heat of his possessiveness was almost suffocating. Lyra exhaled slowly, holding her head high. “I said it before, and I’ll say it again. I don’t belong to anyone.” For a heartbeat, the room seemed to hold its breath. The four males exchanged glances—frustration, possessiveness, and something dangerously close to admiration. Kael stepped closer, tilting his head. “You’ll change your mind,” he said softly, almost a growl. Lucien’s lips curled. “We all know you will, darling. The bond… it always wins.” Azrael leaned against the wall, smirk teasingly. “We’ll see how long it takes.” Orion finally spoke, calm but firm. “No one touches her without my consent. Remember that.” Lyra blinked. The tension was dizzying. Four rivals. All possessive. All utterly incapable of sharing her attention. And yet, a strange thrill ran through her veins. As if to break the tension, Mira nudged her. “Ignore them for now. Focus on surviving your first night. There’s more to this school than boys who think they own you.” Lyra nodded, glancing around the dorm. Magical wards glimmered faintly in the corners, protective spells placed over every window and door. She could feel the energy hum beneath her fingers. Strange… her father had never shown her wards like these. Her powers stirred, tiny sparks of energy she hadn’t yet learned to control. Elara noticed it too, tilting her head. “You felt that, didn’t you? The wards… they react to you.” Lyra’s stomach twisted. “I don’t know why. I’ve never felt anything like this.” Jaxon stepped closer, a hand on her shoulder. “Then you’ll learn. And I’ll be here to make sure you survive the… politics of this place.” Mira rolled her eyes. “Politics? More like mate warfare. Just wait—by the end of the week, your four rivals will be at each other’s throats over you. And you’ll love every second of it.” Lyra shook her head, but she couldn’t help the small, reluctant smile tugging at her lips. She was intrigued… even if it terrified her. Outside the dorm, a low growl echoed faintly. Kael’s warning tone. Lucien’s predatory presence. Azrael’s teasing energy. Orion’s calm intensity. The four mates were already circling her like wolves around prey—possessive, dangerous, and completely enthralled by her. And Lyra knew one thing for certain: survival at Nightfall Academy wasn’t just about mastering magic or combat. It was about navigating four rival mates, their possessive games, and the darkness that was already gathering around her. The first night inside the academy dorm ended with whispers in the shadows and sparks of magic brushing against her senses. Someone—or something—was watching her. Waiting. Testing.
