I woke up and a bright room, as I looked around I realized i was in a hospital. A young couple were standing right outside the room talking to a doctor, once they realize im awake they rush in by my side asking me if I was okay and how I was feeling. It was hard for me to speak but I mutter out “where’s my parents”. The both look to eachother with sadness in their eyes. They explain to me that the had been camping in the forest when they heard screaming and explosions , so they rushed through and found our whole town up in flames and destroyed. The stormy weather put out the flames as quickly as they emerged but everything was already destroyed. They said that they walked around for hours trying to find survivors that’s when they found me. They said that i was barely alive and that they had found another person alive as well and that he was in the icu recovering. I curled up in a ball and started crying. I’ve lost everything and I’m only ten. What was I supposed to do now. They went back out into the hallway and continued talking. The doctor came back in and asked me what my name was and my age. “ My name is Scarlett Castro and I just turned 10” I muttered out. He nodded and walked out of the room. I eventually cried my self to sleep. I was so exhausted.
A week has gone by and I’m getting better. I’m able to get up and walk around now. The same couple was still there. Everyday they stayed with me, comforting me. They came up to the bed and sat down and they explained that they know it’s been a difficult time for me but because I was still only ten that I needed a family to help take care of me until I’m an adult and that they would love to do that if I would like. I started crying remembering that I don’t have any parents anymore but I needed to be strong for them so I put on a smile as best as I could and accepted their offer. About a week later I was released from the hospital. I sat quiet in the back seat on the way to my new home, new town, new everything. I knew that these people were humans so now I was truly on my own. I had to train my self and prepare myself for my future.
As I grew up I kept to myself. I didn’t talk with anyone. Everyone knew my story and had felt bad and tried to befriend me but I just shrugged everyone off. I wanted to be alone. I got along well with my new family. I grew to love them, and they loved me too. They were unable to have kids so I was a blessing to them. A few months after the accident I met up with the other survivor of my pack, he was one of the warriors and he explained that what had happened that night. A huge group of rogues got together and wanted to defeat a high ranking pack. And since our pack wasn’t huge they figured they could kill us all at night so they waited for a stormy night and attacked. He said that unfortunately he could no longer smell anyones scent in the pack and that unfortunately meant everyone else had probably died. It was hard to hear but I was already numb from the pain I felt about that memory. I haven’t seen him since that day.
On my 16th birthday I woke up and I heard a voice calling out to me, “ Hello Scar”. I started crying, my father used to call me that. She immediately apologized “ I’m sorry Scarlett, I did not mean to upset you. I’m your wolf Quinn.” I gather myself and I welcome her and let her know that I’m happy she has arrived and that it was okay for her to call me scar. We talked all morning getting to know eachother more. It was a great day. I finally felt like I had someone I could talk to. Nobody knew I was a wolf and it was hard to keep it a secret. The next two years flew by my birthday was in a week and I knew that I would be able to find my mate. I had dreamed about that moment since a was a young girl. I graduate today and I moving off to college an hour away. The graduation goes by quickly and my parents are both sobbing in the audience. I give them tight hugs and we head home to celebrate. That next morning I pack my bags in my car and have breakfast for the last time at home with them they give me big hugs and kisses and they both scold me about partying and getting into trouble and then end it with a more hugs and kisses. We say our “i love yous” and I head off to my college town for the summer to get a job for school starts.
