Then she ended the call. *** Kelvin sat at his office for a while, realizing he had not perceived the sweet scent of her perfume, nor did he hear her greet him as usual. "Mary! " He called out arrogantly, stood up in a haste and walked towards her desk. He stared at her empty desk, his focus wavered as the glimpse of the night they spent together, flashed through his mind. He flinched, quickly picked up the envelope on her desk, and instead of reading the content of the envelope, he paused and flung it away. Rushed back to his office in annoyance, picked up his phone, and spoke into it, without hesitation. “Send someone up here; I need you to clear out my former secretary's desk, and get me new one quickly, just the way I like them..." "How dare she quit, she better not return for her job, because I will make her regret it." He mumbled to himself taping his fingers on his desk. *** Marianne ran toward the door. “ I am coming, hold on.” She opened the door, picked up a package from the man at the door, and shut it immediately... Then ran past Amy, and went into the bathroom. Amy quickly followed her. "Is it here already?” She asked, but Marianne ignored her and hurriedly began to tear the package. She briefly went over the instructions. "Am I doing it right?" She asked, as she began to use the product. Amy nodded, she quietly watched her hassle; she went close, held her hands, as they both closed their eyes and started whispering in prayers. While they waited, soon the stopwatch rang loudly. An intense tension filled the bathroom; they both grew cold feet. "What if..." Marianne stared at Amy, not leaving her hands. "Just check it, before concluding" Amy cut in, her expression softened with concern. She slammed the stopwatch down onto the table, with a loud thud. Marianne stood still, she didn't have the courage to check. "I don't think I want to know." She hesitated “Whatever it is, I need you to know that, I will always be here for you.” Amy reassured her, her voice filled with empathy. Marianne felt relieved, and hope swirled within her. She slowly moved closer to the bathroom sink, her heart racing as she picked it up. "Amy," She slowly whispered, her hands trembled uncontrollably. "Yes!" Amy replied, anxious to hear more from her. "I am pregnant." She said; her face became pale and tears dropped down her cheeks. "Oh, Marianne" Amy immediately hugged her. "You are going to be fine, I promise." She continued to reassure her. *** "You are not supposed to be here ma'am, I don't care if you once worked here" The head of security yelled. "I just want to see him, it's important" Marianne hurriedly walked pass the him, he ran after her as She quickly bashed into Kelvin's Office. Just to find him and Nadia all over each other. "Kay, Who is that ?" Nadia asked, as she callously wore her shirt back on. "No one" Kelvin responded, avoiding further drama. Marianne stood in shock, and soon the securities ran into the office. "We are sorry sir , we tried stopping her, she wasn't supposed to Interrupt you... I am sorry" the head security said, bowing as he apologized. "It's fine, leave us" Kelvin waved his hand, signaling them to leave. "I want to speak to you, it's urgent" Marianne said, trying to be brave, her voice shaky and low. "Nadia" Kelvin called out to her. "Hmm" Nadia responded staring at Marianne. "Give us the room please?" He asked. "Kay!" Nadia called out with a bold frown. "Please" Kelvin repeated softly. Nadia picked up her bag, walked towards Marianne and said. "Hy...miss no one," with a mocking voice, shouldered her aside, and reached for the office exit. "If you are here to get your job back, I..." He started, "No I am not here for that. " She said as she slammed an envelope on his table. Kelvin paused, trying to understand what was happening. "What is this" He said sounding in control. "The cash you gave me, I am not a prostitute and I don't need your money." She said fiercely. Kelvin looked at her then smiled. "And who called you a prostitute" He began to fix his cufflinks. "That was what you you Implied." She stood her ground. "I needed a friend that night, and you were there for me as a friend." He said looking straight into her eyes " "Is that his idea of a friend?" Marianne thought to herself. "You earned that money, so no, it was not for the s*x, or whatever wide thoughts, you have going, on your mind." Marianne was dumbfounded; she only stared at him. "But if you don't want it, it's fine...any other thing? or perhaps, there's something else, you'd like to throw on my table?" He smirked at his last statement. Marianne was frozen, her thoughts banging loud in her head. "He is an asshole and doesn't deserve to know, I am carrying his child, he might ask me to abort it, no I won't tell him; what if he finds out. I don't know what to do" She contemplated. "If that is all I would like to go for lunch." He picked up his suit and walked past Marianne. "You know your way out." He said then left. "Marianne stood there for a moment, grabbed the envelope and left. *** "I couldn't tell him, Amy; i don't think he even cares" Marianne said, sobbing over the phone, standing outside the office building. Nadia was walking out of the office building, she then sighted Marianne, and decided to eavesdrop. "What if he ask me to get rid of the child, Amy is Kelvin Quinn we are talking about here." She said flagging down a taxi. "Oh! One of his minions, pregnant? Wow!" Nadia murmured in annoyance, her bag brushing against the wall. The noise it made drew Marianne's attention; she looked back and began walking towards Nadia. "s**t!" Nadia whispered, and hid herself quietly behind a wall.
