Chapter 6: Cracks in the Bond The morning after the rogue attack, the Silver Crescent Pack buzzed with excitement. Everywhere Lyra walked, wolves whispered her name. "Did you see the silver light?" "She sent three rogues flying without touching them!" "Maybe she really is blessed by the Moon Goddess." But not every whisper was filled with admiration. Some carried fear. "Power like that isn't natural." "What if she's dangerous?" Lyra kept her head down as she crossed the courtyard. The praise and suspicion weighed on her equally. She had no answers—not for the pack, and not for herself. As she reached the training grounds, Kael called her name. "Lyra." She turned to find him standing alone. For a moment, neither of them spoke. Finally, Kael broke the silence. "Are you hurt?" The question surprised her. "I'm fine." He nodded awkwardly. "I... wanted to thank you." Lyra's eyes widened. "For what?" "If that light hadn't appeared, more of my warriors would have died." A faint smile tugged at her lips. "You've never thanked me before." Kael looked away, unable to meet her gaze. "I suppose I should have." For a brief moment, the distance between them seemed to shrink. Watching from across the courtyard, Selene's smile disappeared. "No," she whispered. "This isn't how it's supposed to happen." She turned and hurried toward the old storage hall, where a hooded figure waited in the shadows. "They're getting closer," she hissed. The figure chuckled. "Then it's time for the next step." He handed her a small crystal vial filled with black liquid. "What is it?" "A truth enhancer." Selene frowned. "It doesn't look harmless." "It isn't." "What will it do?" "It will awaken the darkest emotions already hidden inside someone's heart." She stared at the vial. "Use only a few drops." "If the Alpha drinks it before the Blood Moon Festival..." "He'll see only betrayal where there is loyalty." Selene slowly smiled. "Then Lyra won't stand a chance." ... That evening, Elder Miriam invited Lyra into the Moon Temple. The walls were covered in ancient carvings of wolves bowing before a radiant woman surrounded by silver flames. The elder lit a circle of candles. "Sit." Lyra obeyed. "I need to know whether the pendant chose you... or recognized you." Closing her eyes, Lyra held the pendant against her chest. Almost instantly, silver light flooded the temple. The carvings on the walls began to glow. Ancient symbols appeared beneath Lyra's feet. Elder Miriam gasped. "No..." "It can't be..." The light vanished as suddenly as it had appeared. Lyra opened her eyes. "What happened?" The elder looked pale. "The markings..." "They belong to the First Luna." "The very first woman blessed directly by the Moon Goddess." Lyra stared at her in disbelief. "What does that mean?" Before Elder Miriam could answer, a deafening crack echoed through the temple. The sacred Moonstone at the altar split cleanly in half. The flames of every candle went out. An icy wind swept through the room. A chilling voice whispered from the darkness. "The chains... are weakening." Then silence. Elder Miriam dropped to her knees. "The prophecy has begun." ... Far away, in the obsidian fortress, the crimson-eyed king stood on a balcony overlooking an endless sea of clouds. A silver wolf appeared beside him. "The seal is breaking, Your Majesty." "I know." "Will she survive what comes next?" The king closed his eyes. "She must." "For if Lyra falls..." "So does every kingdom beneath the moon." Lightning flashed across the distant horizon. The immortal king whispered a name no one else had heard in a thousand years. "Aurora..." Then he opened his crimson eyes. "They called you Lyra in this life." "But your soul has never forgotten who you truly are." And somewhere, deep within Lyra's heart, an ancient power stirred—waiting for the moment her destiny would awaken.
