Chapter 4: The Moon's Whisper
The night after Lyra encountered the mysterious black wolf, sleep did not come easily.
Every time she closed her eyes, she saw those crimson eyes watching her—not with hunger, nor with malice, but with a strange sadness that stirred something deep inside her soul.
When sleep finally claimed her, the world around her changed.
She found herself standing in a vast meadow bathed in silver moonlight. Countless white lilies stretched as far as the eye could see, their petals glowing softly beneath a sky filled with stars.
There was no wind.
No sound.
Only peace.
"Where am I?" Lyra whispered.
"You are in the Realm Between."
The voice was soft, melodic, and filled with ancient power.
Lyra turned.
A woman dressed in flowing silver robes stood a few steps away. Her long hair shimmered like moonlight, and her eyes held the wisdom of countless centuries.
Though Lyra had never seen her before, every instinct urged her to kneel.
"The... Moon Goddess?"
The woman smiled gently.
"You have a kind heart, Lyra Ashthorne."
Tears filled Lyra's eyes.
"Then why have you abandoned me?"
The Moon Goddess's smile faded.
"I have never abandoned you."
"Then why does my mate not love me?"
"Because every soul has the freedom to choose."
Lyra lowered her head.
"So... I'm destined to lose him?"
The goddess walked closer and gently lifted Lyra's chin.
"Sometimes, child, what feels like the greatest loss is the first step toward your true destiny."
Before Lyra could ask another question, the meadow began to fade.
The goddess's final words echoed through the silence.
"When your heart breaks beneath the Blood Moon... do not lose hope."
"You are loved more deeply than you can yet imagine."
Lyra reached out.
"Wait!"
The dream shattered.
...
She awoke before dawn, her face wet with tears.
The memory of the dream remained crystal clear.
For the first time in weeks, a tiny spark of hope flickered inside her.
...
Elsewhere in the pack, Alpha Kael stood alone on a balcony overlooking the sleeping territory.
He hadn't slept at all.
Every time he closed his eyes, he saw Lyra's wounded expression from the previous evening.
A voice interrupted his thoughts.
"You look troubled."
Kael turned.
Selene approached, carrying two steaming mugs of coffee.
"I thought you could use this."
He accepted it absentmindedly.
"Thank you."
She leaned against the railing.
"The pack believes the Bond Ceremony will solve everything."
Kael sighed.
"They expect too much."
Selene studied him carefully.
"Do you love her?"
Kael remained silent.
His silence was answer enough.
Selene hid the satisfaction rising within her.
"You deserve someone who understands your burdens, Alpha."
Someone who can stand beside you as an equal.
Someone like me.
She didn't say the last words aloud.
Not yet.
...
That afternoon, Elder Miriam summoned Lyra.
The old priestess placed an ancient silver pendant into her hands.
At its center rested a crescent moon carved from glowing crystal.
"This has belonged to the future Lunas of our pack for generations."
Lyra stared at it in awe.
"It's beautiful."
"It will protect you."
"From what?"
Elder Miriam hesitated.
Then she spoke quietly.
"I do not know."
"But the spirits have grown restless."
"They whisper of darkness... and of a king long forgotten."
Lyra's heart skipped.
A king.
Her thoughts immediately returned to the crimson-eyed stranger in the forest.
Could the two somehow be connected?
Before she could ask, a loud howl echoed through the pack.
A scout burst into the courtyard, covered in blood.
"Alpha!"
"The rogues have attacked the eastern border!"
"They're stronger than ever before!"
Kael's commanding voice rang across the pack.
"Warriors, with me!"
Within moments, dozens of wolves raced toward the forest.
Lyra clutched the silver pendant tightly.
For reasons she could not explain, she felt that this attack was not random.
Someone...
Was pulling the strings from the shadows.
And somewhere beyond the eastern border, the crimson-eyed king watched the battle about to unfold.
"The game has begun," he murmured.
