CHAPTER SEVEN The Divorce Was Real SUMMER'S POV The name Hart Global reminded me of my arrival, the very day I left Mattias. What was built by me had my name, but I was never recognized as the owner. LITTLE FASH BACK The sound of my heels echoed through the marble hallway as I stepped out of the Hambert mansion without looking back. For five years, I had entered this house believing it was my home. Tonight, I left knowing it had only been a beautiful prison. The cool evening breeze brushed against my face, carrying away the tears that had refused to fall in front of Mattias and his family. No more. No more begging for love. No more pretending not to notice lipstick stains on his shirts. No more waiting alone at the dining table until midnight. No more smiling while another woman proudly carried my husband's child. I tightened my grip around the small suitcase beside me. Five years... Five years of sacrificing my dreams. Five years of living for a man who had never truly been mine. I laughed bitterly. "What a fool I was." A black luxury car stopped beside the gate. The driver hurried out and opened the rear door. "Mrs. Hart..." I paused. For a second, hearing that surname again felt unfamiliar. "Mrs. Rose Hart asked me to bring you home." I slowly nodded before getting into the car. As the mansion disappeared behind us, I made myself one promise. I would never return to that house as the woman they once knew. MATTIAS' POV The silence inside the mansion felt unbearable. It was strange. Summer had left before, after arguments. She always came back. Always. This time... Why did it feel different? I walked upstairs, trying to ignore the strange ache settling inside my chest. Elena's voice echoed behind me. "Brother." I didn't answer. "You really signed those papers?" "I told you, I didn't know they were divorce papers." She folded her arms. "Then go after her." I laughed. "For what?" "She'll be back tomorrow." Elena frowned. "Are you sure?" I looked toward the front gate. Summer had nowhere else to go. No family. No money. No career. She had depended on me for five years. She couldn't survive without me. "Trust me." "I know Summer." "She'll come back." Even as the words left my mouth... They didn't sound convincing anymore. NORA'S POV I stood outside the bedroom, listening. Mattias was smiling. But his eyes... His eyes kept drifting toward the window. Toward the gate. Toward the road Summer had disappeared on. A knot formed inside my stomach. Why was he looking like that? Wasn't this what we wanted? Summer was gone. No wife. No secrets. No hiding. Then why did it feel like... Had he lost something precious? I pushed open the bedroom door with a bright smile. "Baby." He looked up. "There you are." I wrapped my arms around his neck. "You finally have me all to yourself." He smiled... But it was forced. I hated that smile. SUMMER'S POV The car finally stopped in front of a pair of towering iron gates. As they slowly opened, my breath caught. The Hart Estate. I hadn't been here in years. Every flower. Every tree. Every stone pathway held memories of the girl I used to be. The girl who dreamed of becoming one of the youngest CEOs in the country. The girl who had built Hart Global with her grandmother's guidance. The girl who gave everything up... For love. The front door opened before I could reach it. An elderly woman stood there. Elegant. Graceful. Powerful. Mrs. Rose Hart. Her eyes met mine. For a long moment... Neither of us spoke. Then she walked forward and gently touched my cheek. "My child..." The words I had been holding back shattered. I burst into tears. She pulled me into her embrace without asking a single question. "I know." "I know everything." I cried harder. "I'm sorry, Grandma.” She shook her head. "No." "The one who should be sorry is me." "I thought giving you love would make you happy." "I never imagined it would cost you your happiness." I closed my eyes. For the first time in five years... I finally felt safe. Mrs. Rose Hart wiped my tears away. "No more crying." "You played your role as a prefect wife". She straightened my shoulders.
