chapter 14 - Miss you Tylor

The dimly lit Italian restaurant was filled with the aroma of freshly baked bread and the soft hum of conversation. The flickering candles cast a warm glow on the white tablecloths, creating a romantic ambiance that seemed to match the rhythm of Ryder's heart. He sat across from Tylor, her beauty radiating like a diamond in the soft light. Her eyes, however, seemed to gleam with a hint of disinterest, her gaze drifting around the restaurant as if searching for an escape route.

Ryder: "You look stunning tonight, Tylor. I'm so glad we could do this."

Tylor: "Thanks."

Ryder: "So, what do you like to do in your free time?"

Tylor: "Read."

Ryder: "Ah, great! I love reading too. What kind of books are you into?"

Tylor: "Fiction."

Ryder: "Nice! I'm more of a non-fiction guy myself. But hey, being with you makes me feel like I'm in a romance novel."

Tylor: "Hmm."

Ryder: "So, what do you think of this restaurant? I heard great things about it."

Tylor: "Fine."

Ryder: "Yeah, I know what you mean. The food is pretty good. But the company is even better."

Tylor: "Yeah."

Ryder: "Tylor, can I ask you something? What's going on with you? You seem a little... distant."

Tylor: "Nothing."

Ryder: "Okay, well, if you ever want to talk about it... I'm here for you."

Tylor: "Thanks."

Maddie decided to surprise Tylor with a visit to her old house, but what she found left her jaw dropped - a "Sold" sign hung on the front door like a harbinger of change. Her mind raced with worry as she realized Tylor's family had moved to a new location, and all her previous contact information was now defunct.

Just as concern was starting to creep in, her phone buzzed to life, and Ethan's cheerful voice boomed on the other end. "Maddie! I've been waiting for you for ages!" She chuckled, explaining that she'd just returned from a road trip and was a bit out of the loop.

Ethan directed her to their new location, a sleek and modern studio space that Tylor had transformed into a creative hub. As Maddie arrived, she was struck by the artistic energy pulsing through the air. Inside, she found Ethan, who greeted her with a warm smile. "Welcome to our new digs, Maddie! We've been setting up shop here for weeks. Tylor will be over the moon to see you." As they embraced, Maddie's excitement and curiosity grew. What had Tylor been up to all this time? And what innovative projects was she working on in this impressive new studio?

(Maddie and her uncle sit at the dinner table, enjoying their meal)

Maddie: (curious) Uncle, do you have any idea where Tylor is now?

Uncle: (smiling) You don't know? (takes a bite of food)

Maddie: (laughing) I wouldn't have asked if I knew! (rolls her eyes)

Uncle: (chuckling) It's just surprising because everybody knows! (sets his fork down) Why don't you Google it and see for yourself?

Maddie: (excited) Okay! (pulls out her phone and starts typing) Oh my gosh...! (eyes widen)

Uncle: (smiling knowingly) See, I told you! (smirks)

Maddie: (impressed) Tylor's running her father's shipping company now! She's taken over the family business! (looks up at her uncle)

Uncle: (nodding) Ah, that's great to hear! (smiles proudly) She's certainly capable of handling it. Her father would be proud. (pauses, takes a sip of water) She's grown into a remarkable young woman.

Maddie: (excitedly) I know, right? I can't believe how much she's accomplished! (smiles) I'm so happy for her!

Uncle: (smiling) Me too, kiddo. Me too. (pats Maddie's hand)

Maddie was unaware of the transformation Tylor had undergone, but she was eager to reconnect with her old friend. Despite knowing Tylor's past reluctance to join the family business, Maddie was thrilled to learn that she had taken the reins of her father's shipping company. With a mix of excitement and curiosity, Maddie looked up the address of Tylor's new residence and made preparations to visit her, eager to discover the changes that had taken place in her life.

(Maddie rings the doorbell, and Mrs. Robinson answers with a warm smile)

Mrs. Robinson: (opening the door wide) Maddie, dear! It's so lovely to see you again! (embraces Maddie)

Maddie: (smiling) Mrs. Robinson, it's great to see you too! (hugs her back)

Mrs. Robinson: (stepping back) Come in, come in! You're looking absolutely stunning, Maddie! I can't believe how grown up you are now! (leads Maddie into the living room)

Maddie: (laughing) Thank you, Mrs. Robinson! You look wonderful too! (takes a seat on the couch)

Mrs. Robinson: (sitting beside her) Oh, please, dear, call me Auntie or Mrs. R - we're not formal here! (smiles) So, tell me, how are your parents doing? And how's work or school going? (leaning in with interest)

Maddie: (smiling) They're all doing great, Mrs. R! Mom's still working at the hospital, and Dad's business is thriving. And I'm... (pauses, grinning) ...figuring out my own path, slowly but surely!

Mrs. Robinson: (laughs) Ah, I remember when you kids were running around here, playing hide-and-seek! Time flies, doesn't it? (smiling wistfully) I'm so proud of the young woman you've become, Maddie!

Maddie: (blushing) Thank you, Mrs. R! That means a lot coming from you! (smiles warmly)

Maddie: (curious) And how's Tylor doing, Mrs. R? I was so surprised to hear she's running the family business now!

Mrs. Robinson: (surprised) Oh, Tylor! (pauses, looking puzzled) You two used to be inseparable, and now... (shakes her head) I can't believe you've lost touch!

Maddie: (sheepishly) I know, I know... life got busy, and we drifted apart. But I've been thinking about her a lot lately, and I'm so glad to hear she's doing well.

Mrs. Robinson: (smiling) Yes, Tylor's doing great! She's really taken to the family business, and her father would be so proud. (chuckles) But I can't believe you two haven't spoken in so long! What happened, dear? You were like sisters!

Maddie: (sighs) I know... we just grew apart, I guess. Went to different colleges, started different careers... (shrugs) But I've been thinking about reaching out to her, catching up.

Mrs. Robinson: (smiling warmly) Well, you're welcome to stay for dinner, and I'll go get Tylor. She'll be thrilled to see you, I'm sure! (gets up and heads towards the stairs) I'll go tell her her long-lost friend is here! (laughs)

Mrs. Robinson: (calling out) Tylor, dear! Maddie is here to see you! (pauses, then turns to Maddie) I'm afraid Tylor is not home right now. She's a very busy woman, you know. (smiles proudly) Let me try calling her. (pulls out her phone and dials)

Maddie: (understanding) Oh, no worries, Mrs. R. I know how busy she must be.

Mrs. Robinson: (into phone) Tylor, dear, it's Mom. Maddie is here to see you... (pauses, listening) Okay, dear. I'll let her know. (hangs up) She's not answering, dear. She must be in a meeting or something.

Maddie: (patiently) That's okay, Mrs. R. I can wait for a bit if you think she'll come soon.

Mrs. Robinson: (smiling) Well, dear, I'm not sure how long she'll be. She's been putting in long hours lately. But you're welcome to wait if you'd like.

(After a while, Maddie gets up to leave)

Maddie: (smiling) I think I'll head out, Mrs. R. I don't want to overstay my welcome. But please give Tylor my best, and tell her I'll try to catch up with her soon.

Mrs. Robinson: (smiling) Of course, dear. Let me get you her card. (gets out a sleek business card from her purse) Here, this has all her contact information.

Maddie: (grateful) Thanks so much, Mrs. R. It was great seeing you again.

Mrs. Robinson: (hugging her) Likewise, dear. Take care, and don't be a stranger! (hands Maddie the card)

Maddie: (smiling) I won't, Mrs. R. Thanks again! (takes the card and leaves)
