Chapter 11. Vivian's POV My eyes felt like they were glued shut with hot glue when I tried to open them, but I was determined to know who had taken me, so I forced them open. The stinging sensation made me wish I had just kept them shut, but once the pain started to subside, I looked around and found myself in a dimly lit room, alone. It was obvious that I had been kidnapped, but by whom? Who would want to kidnap me when I had nothing to offer? I realized that I was alone in the room, and the rope used to tie my hands wasn't too tight, which meant I had a chance to escape. But before I could finish my thought, a door opened, and I made out the physique of a man standing there. He stood still for a moment before entering the room, and I found myself hugging myself tightly as he approached. What did he want with me? Was this some kind of human trafficking situation? Was I going to be sold to foreigners and taken in as one of their slaves? Because I had heard a lot about things like that happening, and the thought of it happening to me right now felt so unreal. When the man spoke, his voice was very deep. "Where is Axel, the one who considers himself the soon-to-be Alpha?" His voice dripped with hate, and it sent shivers down my spine. "I don't know," I murmured, but he wasn't having it. "You better give us the answers we want if you want to leave here alive." I heard another voice come from behind the first man, and I looked up to see that three other men had joined us in the room. The fear in my body skyrocketed. "What is Axel planning to do with Mayor Cobhams on the third day of next month?" one of them asked. Who was Mayor Cobhams, and why were they asking me these strange questions when I knew nothing? "I don't know what you're asking me. I've never heard of a Mayor in my life. Please spare me," I pleaded, putting my hands together in a desperate gesture. But from their hard-set faces, I could see that they didn't believe what I was saying at all. "You better stop lying to us, young lady," the first man said, his voice thin with impatience. "We know that you know where Axel is, and he must have told you of his plans with the neighboring pack. So, it's better you speak up now and tell us all that you know." But I shook my head vigorously. "I promise you, I don't know anything. I'm more or less an insignificant character in Axel's life, so he doesn't tell me anything about his plans or his life. Please believe me, if I knew anything, I would have told you for the sake of my baby," I said, placing my hand on my stomach to show them that I was just a pregnant woman who knew nothing. The third man, who had not said anything, sighed deeply and faced the other men. "It's clear that asking questions will get us nowhere in this case. I know people like her; they don't like things simple, but want it the hard way. That's the only way she's going to speak." I was still trying to understand what he meant by "the hard way" when he took three long strides towards me. Before I knew what he wanted to do, I felt a painful sting on my cheek, and a shout escaped my lips at the same time. He had slapped me, very hard. "Are you going to speak up now, or do you want to keep stalling?!" he shouted right into my ear. I tried to control the urge to cover my nose from his horrible breath. "I promise you, I don't know anything about all that you're asking. I really don't know," I cried out, but it fell on deaf ears when he used his legs to hit me right in the stomach. The jolt of pain I felt almost made me pass out. "You said you're going to tell the truth because of your baby, right? So, I advise you to do just that right now, before I use my hands to make sure that I kill it, and then you afterwards," he spat out. My hands instinctively went around my stomach. How was I going to protect my child? What did I want to tell them that would make them believe that I honestly did not know the answers to all they were asking me? I looked up at the other men in the room, trying to see if they would help me and beg the third one to stop what he was doing, but their faces were set in stone, and they just stood and watched. "I'll ask you the questions again, and you had better save yourself from this torture by telling us all that you know, or else you'll see why you shouldn't even think of playing games with us." "I promise you, I'm not playing any games. Everything I've said is all that I know," I cried out as loudly as I could, but even then, my voice was barely audible. "For the last time, where is Axel?" he asked, his voice calm, which I knew was a sign that a storm was coming if I didn't give him the answer he was looking for. "The last time I saw him was yesterday, but I haven't seen him since today," I tried to say something different from "I don't know." The man scoffed. "This is the last question: what is he planning with Mayor Cobhams?" I was silent, genuinely unsure of how to maneuver the question. After a few minutes, I whispered, "I don't know." and then I tried my hardest best to zone out as I felt the heel of a boot land directly on my face. They were going to kill me.
