Chapter 10

Vivian. Did I really like him like that, or was it our mate bond that was acting up? I had a lot of reservations about the current situation, but it seemed like my heart didn't care about them because I noticed that if he was not near me for a specific amount of time per day, then it felt like my life was falling apart. It was a crazy feeling that I could not understand, and I needed someone to talk to about it, but there was no one I could talk to because I was all alone. While I was brushing my teeth in the bathroom one morning, I was feeling a bit lonely and missing the two family members i had left. As I instantly remembered that I knew where my grandma and sister lived because it was in the documents that Axel had given me earlier, an idea popped up. I had barely finished brushing my teeth before I rushed out of the bathroom to find the documents that contained the address. It didn’t take me long to find it, and I quickly found a pen and paper and copied out the address. All I needed to do now was to find a way that I was going to leave the house unnoticed by anyone. I knew that if I was caught, then I would be in deep trouble, but at that point, it didn't matter. I just wanted to see my family and maybe talk to them if it was possible, but I knew that would be too dangerous, so I was not going to even allow them to see me. That night, I stayed up all night planning how I was going to escape from the house, and it was as if the goddess was on my side because early that morning, I heard Axel and Elizabeth preparing to go somewhere together, and I couldn’t control my joy at the clear coast. Immediately, I heard the car drive out of the building, I went to find my coat and laid it down on the bed. Soon the maids brought my breakfast, and I ate as fast as I could because I didn’t know how long they were going to stay at the place they were going to, so it was safe that I did everything I had to do quickly so I would not get caught. After eating, I waited a few more minutes before picking up my bag and heading out of my room. I was walking as quietly as I could, but because I was looking straight ahead, one of the maids who was coming from a corner almost bumped into me. “Oh my! I’m so sorry ma’am. I didn’t see you there,” she apologized, and I nodded my head. “It’s alright. I just wanted to go out and get some fresh air. I’ll be back soon,” I lied through my teeth, and she just smiled. “I understand ma’am. Staying indoors can be suffocating, and it’s also not good for the baby. Take your time. I’m sure by the time you are back, your lunch will be ready.” “Thank you,” I smiled back before continuing on my way out of the house. Surprisingly, I didn’t meet anyone on the way, only the guard at the gate, and once I told him that I just needed some fresh air for the baby, he allowed me to pass through and only warned me not to go too far in case I missed my way, and I nodded my head to his instructions very meekly. I walked for a few minutes, and once I had gone a reasonable distance from the house, I hailed a taxi and gave him the address that I had written out on a piece of paper. It was a long drive, and throughout the drive, I couldn’t help but feel some kind of guilt at the fact that my family didn’t know where I was, but I also couldn’t wait to see them and see how they had been faring since the last time that I saw them. We finally arrived at the address, and I paid him his money and watched him drive off before putting on the hood of my coat to hide my appearance, then turning around to face the building that he had dropped me in front of. It was a white mansion, and it looked very magnificent. Was this where he had put Grandma and Eunice to live? That was very generous of him. I felt my heart tugging gently at this show of his kindness. Maybe he was not as horrible as he made himself out to be. I stood there for a long while, and just when I had finally accepted that I was not going to see their faces, the front door opened, and I immediately turned around and found a place to hide away from their sight. It was a man who opened the door, and from his clothes, I knew he was the butler. Right behind him came my grandma in a wheelchair that was being pushed by Eunice. They were all smiling at something one of them had said, and they looked so happy that it was painful that I was not part of the joy that they were sharing. Grandma looked well and hearty, and Eunice’s skin was glowing, a sign that they were healthy. I watched them walk around the compound until they finally turned a corner, and I lost sight of them. I sighed, happy that Axel had kept his own side of the deal, and just as I turned around to leave satisfied with what I had seen, I felt someone yank me from my arm and grab me roughly. I felt myself being lifted and thrown into a moving car. A scream made its way from the back of my throat, but before I could open my mouth for it to come out, I felt a piece of cloth being placed between my mouth and nose, and before I could register what was happening, I felt my body go limp, and the last thing I thought about before my brain shut down was what Axel would do when he found out that I was missing.
