Chapter 6

1060 Words
Vivian. Life at the mansion continued to be boring, and I was slowly losing my mind. I would always be indoors, and sometimes I would hear Axel's voice coming from somewhere within the house, but I never for once saw him in my room. He just acted like I didn't exist. One afternoon, one of the maids brought my food to me, and out of curiosity, I asked her about Axel because I had not heard his voice in the house for two days now, "Do you know when Axel is going to come to the house again?" She paused midway as she was pouring out some fresh juice for me, as if I had asked her a forbidden question or said something that was bad, "I'm sorry, did I say anything that was bad? I didn't mean it like that, I just wanted to know about Axel's whereabouts, but it's okay if you don't know about it." I apologized and she shook her head. "No. You didn't say anything terrible, Miss. It's just that I'm not used to hearing anybody other than Miss Elizabeth, call the Alpha-to-be by his real name", she explained to me and I understood perfectly what my mistake had been. "I'm so sorry about that " I apologized again, and she looked like she wanted to say something but stopped herself in her tracks. "Well, he hasn't been here because I overheard him telling Miss Elizabeth that he was going to be traveling soon," she told me and then bowed before leaving the room. I felt bad at the news because he was disregarding me in every way, and it seemed like Elizabeth was the woman that he was in love with. So why did he not have children with her instead of subjecting me to this kind of torture? There were so many questions but so few answers. I pushed the questions to the back of my head and tried to force myself to eat the food because of the baby, even though I did not have any appetite. I had just taken the last spoon of the pasta that I had been served, my room door opened with a bang and in came Elizabeth and, without any form of greeting, she started speaking. "I hope by now you must have been done with your food, because I have some work to do" she announced, and it took me a minute for her words to register in my brain. What did she mean she had some work for me to do? What type of work could I possibly do for her in my condition? "Good afternoon," I greeted her and she rolled her eyes at my greeting, but I continued speaking, "Yes I am done eating, but what work do you want me to do for you? Because I am very tired now and would love to rest, so maybe you can tell me what you need so that I i wake up I will see if I can do it for you" I tried to reason with her, but she was not having it at all. "You must not have heard what I said properly, so let me repeat myself just because I want to be nice today" Her voice was dripping with venom and I didn't understand why she was being so rude. "I want you to do some work for me in the kitchen and I want it to be done right now, so you better get your ass up and follow down there so you can finish on time and then come and rest if that's what you want to do. Now get up!" She commanded, and I put my hands together and pleaded with her "I really cannot do any work in my condition. Please get one of the maids to do whatever it is that you want for you because I feel so heavy standing up that I don't think I can even carry myself," I tried to make her see the reason why I couldn't do any work, but she did not buy it. "So you think that I'm not aware that we have workers in this house? I am very aware of that, but I want you to be the one to do it, so get up right now and follow me" Before I could utter any other word, she had come up to me and yanked me up with my arm and I screamed at the sharp pain that shot up through my arm and ran to my spine "Oh shut up, I haven't even started with you and you are already screaming. Someone would think that I had hit you or something," she said scornfully before she proceeded to continue to drag me by my arm, and I was helpless. "Alright please stop, I'll follow you to the kitchen myself," I whimpered, and she smiled, a smile that sent shivers down my spine at how sinister it looked "Now you're being a good girl. Follow me and do so quickly," she commanded, and started walking to the door and I did my best to keep up with her pace. She turned to me by the time we got to the stairs. "You're too slow for my liking," Then she grabbed me by my hand and stood dragging me down the stairs and I tried my best to match up with her pace so that I would not slip and fall and maybe put my baby at risk. By the time we got to the foot of the staircase, my whole body was on fire and my tears were flowing freely. Why was she doing this to me when I didn't even know her? I asked myself and I thought I had whispered it to me but when she turned and looked me straight in the eyes and said "You tried to kill me at the party, and now you're asking me what you did to me?" She scoffed. "I am going to show you that you have messed with the wrong person. Now follow me before I continue to drag you" I realized that she had heard the question and her answer made me realize who she was. She was the woman from the ushering job that someone had framed me for poisoning her.
