The lamp on Jenna’s desk flickered, throwing sharp shadows across the stack of files in front of her. Her eyes burned, but she refused to close them. Each page was dense with numbers, contracts, merger clauses, and words that seemed to twist the more she read them. She pushed her hair back, muttering under her breath. Jenna: “He thinks I’ll break… I’ll show him I won’t.” Her fingers trembled as she highlighted a section, circling terms she thought she finally understood.
