Chapter Four

"Is she awake?" Richard's voice cut in from the entrance. Just as I was about to respond to this new revelation that I received from my cousin "Yes she is baby" Tiffany smiled and went to stand at Richard's side as soon as he got further into the room. The way it seemed natural to him told me all I needed to know Tiffany was right. She had really been in touch with Richard. Both of them had planned how they would shatter my dreams together and now they were standing in front of me to let me know they have won.

Disgusting! The sight of the two of them made me sick! All I wanted to do was scream but instead another current of tears threatened to fall from my eyes that was already swollen with all the tears from last night. "So have you spoken to her?" Richard continued to ask Tiffany about me, ignoring the fact that I was still in the room watching their shameless display. How could they do this to me? What wrong did I ever do to either of them? I had always tolerated all of Tiffany's mood swings while I was still living with her. And Richard? I gave him my everything! I forgot all about the fact that what we had was based on a contract and I acted like his wife for real. I even put up with his mother's constant nagging about me not being at the same class as them. Why did they decide to pay me back this way? Was it a crime for me to have accepted his offer? To have fallen in love with him even though I knew it was a contract? To still be in love with him even after all that took place last night? "Let's not talk about her for now my love" Tiffany said, her voice tender and seductive as she put her hands on Richard's chest "I want you to kiss me" "Tiffany!" I screamed at her request.

Have she not caused enough damage? What more did she want to prove by this? Have I not been through enough for them to stop tormenting me?" "You have to do it" she continued speaking softly to Richard "Do it so that she will realize that last night was not a joke"Richard said nothing and I almost breathed a sigh of relief. I was yet to fully know what was going on but I was grateful that Richard did not give in to her charms just to spite me. "Richard" Tiffany yelled like the spoilt little brat she was. She was already pouting and I could tell she would start stomping her feet soon. "Oh Tiffany" I teased her, allowing myself this small pleasure "It seemed you have not changed at all this last year. You still behave like a child" "How dare you?" my cousin screamed, her cheeks going red with rage. She launched forward to my bed but she was caught by Richard before she could do any damage to me. "Enough!" Richard growled and the fire had returned to his eyes. Tiffany shook in terror as his hands still held her firmly in place. Before I knew what was going on, I saw Richard press his lips to hers. His soft pink lips meeting her own in a sudden, hot kiss. Tiffany closed my eyes, taking in the pleasure of my husband's mouth. "No!" I yelled at both of them "What is going on with you two?" I continued yelling "What is the meaning of all of this?" They were still locked in a hot kiss which was making my skin crawl. Tiffany appeared to have left her body while Richard's gaze was firmly on me.

"Richard!" Elizabeth's voice called out and my attention was suddenly moved to the middle aged woman dressed in an expensive nightgown who just walked into the room. "Mum?" Richard said in shock because he immediately broke away from Tiffany who groaned in annoyance before she also took notice of the elderly woman in the room. "I thought you just announced your divorce with Flora to the whole of Los Angeles" Elizabeth questioned "What are you then doing with her cousin?" "Mother I…" Richard looked between me and Tiffany and back at me again, desperately searching for which cousin would save him from his mother's questions. "He wanted to prove to me that last night was not a joke" I said immediately "And that he meant what he said about not wanting me anymore" "You" Richard's mother finally turned her attention to me"What are you still doing in my son's house? You have signed the divorce papers yesterday, haven't you?" "Yes I have " trying to sound calm. I was tired of crying every single time someone mentioned the events of last night to me "So when are you and your cousin going to leave?" Richard's mother asked, looking between me and Tiffany."Right away" I said and I took a step from my bed. Immediately my feet touched the ground, I was reminded of my headache and body aches and another sickness that I could not name. "Careful!" Elizabeth warned as I almost fell on top of her but before I could steady myself on the marble floors, my vision got blurry. I passed out right there.

***"Doctor, what is wrong with her?" Elizabeth called out just as I was starting to regain consciousness. I was surprised to see her sitting at my bedside with a look of concern on her face. I turned to find that Richard was standing right beside her while my cousin was a few feet away. Everyone was patiently waiting for the doctor to give his final results and I was eager to hear it too. I had no doubt it was a minor fever and that would change nothing. "I don't know for certain until we can run more tests" the doctor began "But I think Mrs Ericson is pregnant" Silence fell on the whole room.
