Chapter Three

1015 Words
"Here you go" I thrust the papers back into Richard's hand who was just staring at me with wide eyes at what I had just done to our marriage of one year. As if he had not been the one to match in here and start acting like a totally different just because he saw guests gathered at our anniversary. Our marriage was still the biggest news in Los Angeles, where else were they supposed to be? Well our divorce would be even bigger. Along with details of how Richard had embarrassed me in front of so many people. I was going to be the laughing stock of an entire state now. "Oh my!" some of the guests gasped while the mouths of others flew open without a sound to be heard "She just signed it without even thinking""Maybe she already read that there would be a massive compensation for her if she divorced him" another added their comment, their eyes on me, staring, waiting for my next move. "What do you think Richard Ericson put in the papers?" another member of the gossip group asked excited "Would she have a house and a company of her own after this?" "I don't know" the gang leader answered again with a playful look in her eyes "But I'm sure that the handsome billionaire would be very generous" With that the group began to laugh again and I could even see some reporters heading my way "Okay" Richard answered, finally jerking back to reality and accepting the divorce papers from my hand. His wave of anger was complete and I was happy he got what he wanted "Thank…"As soon as the papers left my hands, I ran as fast as I could away from the madness of it all, away from the party that had kept going from bad to worse, away from Richard, away from everything. "Mrs, Ericson, wait!" a female reporter called out to me, attempting to pursue me to wherever I was going "I just want to ask you a few questions""Mrs Ericson" another one called out but this one was a rather young male "We promise not to take much of your time" "Mrs Ericson" "Mrs Ericson" They kept on calling after me as I ran farther and farther away from them. What more did the Los Angeles press want from me? They already had my shame, my tears…My heartbreak. "Flora" someone said but I was too far to notice who it was that had called me by my true name, the name I used to bear proudly before it became Mrs Ericson. "Flora" another person called, as if reminding of what I was now that I was no longer married to one of the wealthiest hunks Los Angeles ever produced. It stopped me in my tracks and I was even tempted to go back there, to show my face as Flora, the naive little girl who taught life was going to change now that she found a billionaire husband. My name is Flora and this is my story. I moved into Los Angeles after I graduated with honours and I hoped to get a great Job and start a life for myself. I had moved in with my father's brother and her wife and daughter treated me horribly. I shook thinking of having to go back there when Richard finally threw me out of his house. It was in the process of searching for a job that I met Richard who made me an interesting offer to be his contracted wife I accepted since I needed the money. Tears fell from my cheeks at the memory of that mistake I made so many months ago. I would have avoided this humiliation if I had refused his offer. It was too late now. What was done was done and all my body ached so much I just wanted to fall asleep. I ran to the closest bedroom I could find and slumped on the bed, closing my eyes and praying that sleep should take me away from such an horrible day. But the sleep I desired did not come. Instead, I kept turning in bed as the memories of the night replayed over and over in my head and more tears left my cheeks. At some point in the night, I was too tired to stay up and keep thinking about it. My head was already pounding, fatigue had rested all over my body and I was feeling very sick. It all went away as darkness took over. ***"Rise and shine princess!" was the next thing I heard from a voice that sounded all too familiar and not in a good way. "Tiffany" I hissed in pain as I opened my eyes to find my cousin staring down at me with a smile on her face. "What is…." I said as I sat upright, assessing my surroundings. I had fallen asleep in one of the mansion's many guest rooms. It was beautiful and spacious but it still felt strange. It was not my bedroom. "Have you forgotten what happened last night?" Tiffany asked, looking at me with satisfaction on her face "Because I will be happy to remind you" "I remember what happened" I glared at her. Even when I was back at my uncle's place, she always saw reason to trouble me over every little thing "Why are you here?" "Isn't it obvious?" Tiffany asked as she looked at me, her smile widening"I just could not miss the look on your face when you are finally thrown out of this mansion ""What?" I asked, my eyes wide open and staring at my cousin as if it were a witch that was standing in front of me. I did not know Tiffany could be this cruel. "Want to know something else?" Tiffany continued to show her teeth "I was the one who sent those decorations and invited the guests" "Tiff….""I knew what Richard was planning to do to you and I wanted the whole of Los Angeles to witness it too" The absolute betrayal!
