"I am sorry," Asher spoke, bending a little more for her to grab his hand. He smirked a little, seeing the perplexed reaction on her face. Her eyes had widened, filled with confusion to see him there.
"Eloise, are you hurt?" Drake's voice made her snap out of the trance. She didn't have the luxury of judging Asher now. At this point, even if the real devil lends a hand to her, she would happily grab it. The only thing she clearly felt was hatred. She needed to escape from her cheating ex-boyfriend. The sound of their dirty moans, the smell of her on his body, and the images of them together made her feel empty. At the same time, she felt overwhelmed, making her nauseous.
"Help me!" Eloise pleaded. Her eyes narrowed to show him her urgency.
Asher bent further to reach her. She grabbed his hands with utmost urgency. With one simple pull, he was able to lift Eloise swiftly. She quickly snaked her hands around him, burying her head. She wanted to avoid Drake like the plague. She again collided with his flat chest, making her surprised. Drake had an impressive body. But Asher had an iron chest or something.
"Eloise!!" Drake seethed. He couldn't hide his jealousy! She didn't even spare him one glance. Yet, she was clinging to another man's chest, her hands wrapped around his neck!
"Run!" Eloise requested, in a faint yet determined voice, rushing him.
Asher spared a glance at her, amused. But she had no time to look at revert his gesture. She slightly peeped at Drake, her attention back on him. He was fuming, his hands clenched into a round ball like always. She felt disgusted to have remembered such a minute detail about him. But what angered her more was his unrepentant attitude. How could he even be angry at her after cheating on her? He had trampled on her soul, on her confidence. She was hurt.
"Please!" Eloise pleaded with him, grabbing his collar out of reflex. It pulled Asher's face closer to hers. He was surprised at her action but didn't pry at it. She was too engulfed in her predicament to notice Asher. She wanted to vanish. But she can't. She wanted to run. But she can't. She couldn't escape from there when she couldn't even stand properly. Asher was her only hope.
Asher lifted his umbrella to look at Drake. When their eyes met, Drake felt like a boulder had hit him. He stood glued to where he was, glowering at Asher. Drake was stunned to see Asher. He clenched his fists, controlling his urge to punch him. Asher glared at him like he could evaporate Drake with his glare. It was as if they were fighting an intense battle with their eyes.
Asher smirked a little, mocking Drake. In return, Drake glowered at him, fuming with rage.
Eloise missed all that, simply thinking that Drake was jealous. Or maybe he wasn’t!
"Save me this one time. Please!" Eloise begged, shaking Asher's hand. She was in a hurry.
"Sure. After all, because of me, you are hurt, Eloise." Asher replied gently, paying her complete attention. It surprised her how he looked at her. She forgot the rush, gawking at him and his handsome face.
Was it because she was his younger brother's teacher? They had interacted a little before. But all the stories she heard about him had given him an unapproachable impression. Now that she was meeting him properly in that dire situation, she thought Asher was not only handsome but also a gentleman. She coiled her hands against his chest for some support but was left flabbergasted when he lifted her.
"It isn't necessary!" Eloise protested, pushing him a little. She gawked at him. Her big eyes widened even more.
"It isn't anything! You can't walk with that ankle. I am just helping." Asher smiled gently, her eyes fixated on her.
The rain had no mercy on him. It was pouring so heavily that his clothes got wet immediately. Eloise felt awful having put him in that place. But her situation was far more overwhelming.
"Eloise, stop! If you go with him, it is over." Drake threatened, stomping his foot. He was screaming and yelling at her.
Eloise simply looked at Drake, raising her middle finger. She did it to make him feel worse. She was probably coming off as a terrible human right then, but in her heart, she believed Drake deserved it.
"f**k!" Drake groaned, chasing the two.
Eloise's body stiffened, and her eyes popped out. She couldn't handle the tension building up. "Drake is following."
"Don't worry," Asher replied nonchalantly.
He quickly got off the stairs on the other side of the bridge, moving to the sidewalk, increasing his pace. It surprised Eloise how her weight didn't affect him much. He must be doing heavy-weight training every day. No wonder he had such a splendid physique. She looked around. Even if there were a few women, she could feel jealous eyes bearing on her. Not far away, Drake was still chasing them. Why? It was over, after all!
As Drake's voice neared, she looked at him with tensed eyes. She did not wish to talk to him. There was nothing left. She will never stand betrayal, no matter what.
Drake was about to get hold of her when Asher put her down, much to her horror. But in a split second, she sighed with relief when he moved to the road and opened his car door.
Asher quickly helped Eloise to get into the car. Drake had almost reached them when he, too, got inside and started the engine. Drake kept banging the window at Eloise's end, but the man drove off without caring. Even if it was cruel of them, Eloise sighed with respite. She didn't want to spare another moment with Drake. In the side mirror, she saw him stomping his foot, pissed. But he had no right to stop her when he trampled their relationship.
