Adrian
My wolf suddenly became restless.
Mine.
I froze.
Absolutely not.
I straightened.
“No.”
Ethan looked at me.
“Did you say something?”
“No.”
My wolf growled again.
I hated him sometimes.
She was not mine.
She was a girl I barely knew.
A girl who had spilled coffee on me.
A girl who was annoying.
Stubborn.
And currently looking at Evan Vale like—
No.
I turned away.
“Let’s go.”
Ethan looked toward Lena.
Then back at me.
“You’re going to talk to her.”
"No."
"You want to ."
"No."
"You're worried."
"I said no!"
Ethan smiled.
" You're terrible at lying."
I ignored him.
My attention remained fixed on the academy entrance.
Lena had been asking questions all day.
Questions about bloodline.
Questions about students disappearing.
Questions she didn't have any business with.
And if she kept digging, someone was eventually going to notice her.
Someone worse than me.
I was determined to ignore her.
Completely.
Then a familiar voice interrupted my thought.
“Adrian.”
I turned.
Lena stood a few feet away.
My body went still.
My wolf did the same.
For one moment, neither of us spoke.
She walked towards me,her expression suspicious .
“You know something."
It wasn't a question.
I raised an eyebrow.
" About what?"
" The bloodlines."
My expression hardened.
" What about them?"
"The students were talking about them earlier today."
She stepped closer.
" They mentioned a test"
I said nothing.
Her eyes narrowed.
" And you know what that rest is."
" You heard wrong."
" No I didn't ."
" Lena."
" What?"
" Forget about it."
She laughed .
" You really need to stop telling me to forget things."
I stared at her.
" You don't understand what you're dealing with."
" Then explain it."
" I can't "
" Can't or won't?"
Silence.
She folded her arms.
" Exactly."
I looked away.
She wasn't going to stop.
That much was obvious.
" What did you hear exactly?"
Her expression changed.
" You're interested now?"
" Answer me."
She hesitated .
" They said the bloodline was weakening"
My wolf stirred.
I kept my expression blank.
" And?"
" They said the rest would reveal everything."
For the first time, I couldn't hide my reaction.
Lena noticed.
Her eyes widened slightly.
" So you do know something."
I stepped closer.
" You shouldn't have heard that."
" Why?'
" Because you're new."
" That doesn't answer anything."
" it answers enough ."
" No, it doesn't ."
She looked frustrated.
I understood.
If I told her the truth, she'd ask more questions.
If I lied,she'd investigate anyway
Neither option was good.
Then she said something that made my patience disappear.
" Is this because of Evan?"
My jaw tightened.
" What does Evan have to do with this?"
" You tell me."
" Hello has nothing to do with it."
"Then why did you warn me about him earlier today?"
" Because he's dangerous ."
" So are you."
I stared at her.
She didn't look away.
That was the thing about Lena.
Most people lowered their eyes when I looked at them.
She didn't .
" You don't know him," I said
" And you do?"
" Yes."
" Then tell me what he's hiding."
I couldn't .
Not here.
Not yet.
"Stay away from him."
She smiled.
"Still giving orders?"
"I'm serious."
"So am I ."
She stepped closer.
" Make me."
For one second neither of us moved.
My wolf went completely still.
Her eyes met mine.
Something in the air shifted.
My gaze dropped before I could stop it.
Her lips.
I immediately stepped back.
" Where are you going?" she asked.
"Class."
She glanced toward the opposite hallway.
" That's the wrong direction ."
" I know."
I turned before she could see my expression .
Behind me, I heard her laugh softly.
I didn't look back.
I couldn't.
Because my wolf was still whispering the same word.
Mine.
And I was beginning to hate how much I was starting to believe him.
Lena
After classes, I waited outside the academy.
For Evan.
Mia had spent the last ten minutes trying to convince me not to go.
Sophie had tried a gentler approach.
“Be careful.”
Which somehow worried me more.
I looked at them.
“You're both acting like I'm going to war.”
Mia crossed her arms.
“You might be.”
I laughed.
“It's a drink.”
“With Evan Vale.”
“Yes.”
“The Vale.”
I frowned.
“Why do you keep saying his last name like that?”
Neither answered.
Of course.
I sighed.
“I'll be fine.”
Sophie touched my arm.
“Just come home before dark.”
I looked at her.
“Why?”
Her expression changed.
Mia immediately answered.
“Because your mother will worry.”
I stared at them.
That wasn't the reason.
I knew it.
But before I could question them, a familiar voice spoke behind me.
“Ready?”
I turned.
And immediately forgot everything.
Evan stood beside a dark car.
I smiled.
“Yeah.”
Mia grabbed my hand.
“Lena.”
I looked at her.
“What?”
She leaned closer.
“If he does anything strange, scream.”
Evan raised an eyebrow.
“I can hear you.”
“Good,” Mia said.
I stared at her.
“Why are you like this?”
“Because someone has to protect you.”
“I've known you for three days.”
“Exactly. I'm attached already.”
I laughed.
Sophie hugged me briefly.
“Be careful.”
“I will.”
Then I followed Evan toward his car.
I glanced back.
Mia and Sophie stood at the academy entrance, watching us leave.
And for some reason...
They didn't look amused anymore.
They looked afraid.

Adrian
I was not watching her.
I repeated that to myself as I stood near the academy entrance.
I was simply standing there.
Ethan appeared beside me.
“You're watching her.”
“I’m not.”
“She just got into Evan’s car.”
I looked at him.
“Why are you telling me?”
“Because you've been staring at it for five minutes.”
“I haven't.”
“You have.”
My wolf growled.
Ethan sighed.
“Your wolf is loud.”
“Mind your business.”
He looked toward Evan's car.
“You know where they're going?”
“No.”
“Do you care?”
“No.”
Ethan stared at me.
I glared at him.
He smiled.
“Fine.”
Evan's car disappeared beyond the academy gates.
I stared after it.
My wolf growled again.
I clenched my fists.
“She's fine.”
Ethan's expression changed.
“I know.”
I turned toward him.
“I wasn't talking to you.”
“I know.”
I looked back toward the gates.
A strange feeling settled inside me.
Something was wrong.
I could feel it.
The forest was restless.
The moon would rise soon.
And Evan Vale...
Evan never did anything without a reason.
My wolf moved uneasily.
Find her.
“No.”
Find her.
“She chose to go with him.”
Find her.
I clenched my jaw.
Ethan watched me carefully.
“What is it?”
I didn't answer.
Then my phone vibrated.
I looked down.
One message.
From an unknown number.
You should have stopped her.
My body went still.
A second message appeared.
Before the moon rises.
The air around me suddenly felt colder.
Ethan noticed my expression.
“What happened?”
I looked toward the darkening sky.
For the first time since Lena Whitmore arrived at Mooncrest...
I wasn't irritated.
I was afraid.
And I had the terrifying feeling that Lena's first date at Mooncrest might not end with Evan.
Because someone else had been watching her too.
Someone who knew exactly what she was.
And they were waiting for the moon to rise.
