Sabrina Meyers (POV)
I woke up the next morning with a throbbing head. It was as if someone is hammering it too much. I used my finger to rub my forehead hoping that the pain will lessen but to my dismay, it just got worst. "Here, take it to lessen the pain."
I look up to see who was it. It was my mother who is standing beside my bed handing me a glass of water. I shifted on my position and leaned on my beds headboard. I took the glass of water she's handing me and the Advil that is on her hand. When I'm done, I put the glass on my bedside table.
"How did I got home?" I curiously asked. The last thing that I remembered is that I'm in a club forcing Ema to join me at the dance floor. But, she convinced me not to. I was totally drunk . The rest of the evening is a history.
"Ema was the one who brought you home last night. You were totally drunk like a mess," my mother replied as she sat down on the bed.
"What's going on dear?" she added.
I bit my lower lip not knowing what to say. I'm not sure whether to tell her or not the truth. But, of course, I'm the good daughter and I chose to do the best and tell her the truth.
I heaved a deep sigh before looking out at the balcony. "I broke up with Luke yesterday," I said. I waited for her to say something but I never heard anything. I shifted my attention towards her that I shouldn't have done. I was met by her sympathetic eyes. That was the last thing I wanted to see and receive from her. I don't want people to feel sorry for me for what happened.
"I'm sorry to hear that dear, but why?" she replied as she touches my knee.
"Well, I caught him cheating behind my back with my so-called friend, Ava."
"Wait, what? Ava? You mean - Ava Millers?"
"Yep, Ava Millers. I thought she's a friend but I was wrong after all these years. Mom, they've been cheating on me for God knows how many years and it really pained me."
"I'm sorry dear. I hope I can do something to ease the pain you're going through right now."
"I'm going to be fine, just your presence is fine with me. It will help me a lot," I said giving her my genuine smile. My mom moved closer to me and hugged me. I hugged her back and let a drop of my tear fall down my cheek.
I should not cry. They don't deserve it as what Ema said but my tears keeps on betraying me as it rolled down my cheeks. "Mom, what did I do to be scarred like this?"
"Shh, nothing. Maybe Luke is not really the guy for you. Take my word, you will meet someone that is much better than him. He doesn't deserve a kind hearted woman like you."
Silence filled my room. We just stayed there hugging each other. By that time, I realized that no matter what happens, my mother will always be my comforting zone. She'll always be there for me.
"Enough of this drama dear. Go and get yourself freshen up. You need to be downstairs. Your father wants to see you in his office," she said with her serious tone. Once my mother is serious, she meant every word she says.
"Yes mom, I'll be there in ten."
My mom patted my shoulder before she left. I heaved a deep sigh as I hear a sauntering steps away from my room. Once again, the seen that shattered my heart came into view. I smiled sadly. That will never be forgotten. That will always haunt me for it's my first heartache but I'll not allow that to make me fall. That will definitely not happen again.
I closed my eyes remembering all those memories I had with Luke. The first man I love and the first man to break me into pieces. I was thinking too much not to notice that I'm already tearing.
"Enough with it. They're happy. Move on!" I said to myself before I pulled myself away from the bed and entered the bathroom. As usual, I did my morning rituals. I chose to wear a simple clothes paired with a white short shorts. I don't have any plan of going anywhere today. After I talk to my father, I'll be staying here in my room and sleep.
I heaved a deep sigh, tied my hair in a messy bun and went downstairs and was met by my mother at the kitchens entrance. "We're done eating breakfast. If you want, I can make some food for you."
"I can do it myself mom."
I walked pass her and poured myself a cup of coffee. I can see my mom opening her mouth trying to say something on my peripheral vision but chose to keep quiet. "What is it mom?" I ask without glancing at her.
"Your dad is waiting for you in his office. You told me to be there in ten but you're spacing out," says my mother.
"I'm sorry. I just can't - ugh, enough," I replied. He is not having a meeting for today?" I immediately added.
I saw how my mother take a sigh before saying, "Not until he saw you drunk last night. He immediately called his secretary and cancelled all his meetings today," she replied.
My jaw literally dropped as I heard what my mother said. Who wouldn't. My father is not that kind of person or businessman who will just cancel all his important meeting just for his daughter. He's really a workaholic man.
"He wanted to talk to you about something important, I guess," my mom added as I was not able to say something.
"O-okay," I simply replied. My mom smiled at me before she left. After eating my so called breakfast that only consist of a bread and a cup of coffee, I went to see my dad.
I tried to make myself more relaxed before knocking at his door office. I heard him say "come in" before I push the door open, letting myself in.
"Morning dad," I greeted him. I walked towards him and give him a kiss on his cheek. I still respect my father even if we are not really in good terms. We are far from father and daughter relationship. And it all started the day I turned down the agreement he did for me to marry some stranger and choose Luke.
"Have a seat," he said, more of a command, gesturing to the seat across him. I found myself following him. I don't want to make him angry and I'm not in the mood to have an argument with him.
"I'm going straight to the point. Last night you were drunk, care to tell me why?"
His not using his business tone to me. And that made me look at him. I meet his intent gaze. "I'm sorry dad, it was just - sorry," I replied. I'm having a hard time to tell him the reason why.
"It's okay. Now, care if you tell me why?"
That's another surprise. My father will not just let this pass so easily. I took a deep breath. "Dad, I just want to forget about those things that has gotten on my nerves."
"Like what?"
I look away not knowing what to say. I don't know if we are having a daughter - father talk. "I broke up with Luke. I- I caught him cheating," I simply said. I looked down on my feet waiting for his reply but I received none. I look towards him only to see him smiling.
"That's great. Do you think, you can consider the arrangement I've done that you turned down just for that guy?"
"Dad- "
"Don't worry, it's not now. I'll give you time."
I stayed quiet. I don't want to argue with him right now. I don't know what I'm feeling. How could my father talk to me about marriage when I'm broken?
"I'll give you two months to think about it," he added.
"Is that it?" It's not the time to argue with him. There is no point.
"Yes, for now. Go and have some rest," he replied.
I pushed myself up from the seat and walked towards the door. I was about to open the door when I hear my dad saying, "I'm sorry if I'm doing this to you Sabrina. I just want the best for you, for my daughter who is as strong and kind as you."
I turned to say something but I was pulled into a hug. I didn't notice my father walk behind me. "I'm sorry to bring this thing up to you after knowing that you're broken. Please understand me."
I smiled on my father's chest. The fact that I'm broken because of my asshole ex-fiancé, I'm a little bit happy because my father is hugging me. "Yeah, you want the best for me. I hope I listened to you before fighting for Luke," I said.
If my good relationship with my father means marrying a stranger, then, I'lldefinitely go with it. I just hope that I'll not regret about this decision of mine the next day.
Caden Stewart (POV)
I rushed out of my car as I pulled up the driveway. I asked Roger, my security who's been working for our family ever since I was still in my mother's womb, to park my car properly.
As soon as I stepped inside, a smell of a burned food filled my nostrils. I was about to say something when Magie, Roger's wife and my long time nanny, rushed towards me with a worried look. "She's in my kitchen?" I said more of a statement.
Magie nodded that confirmed my thought. "I thought she's gone?" I said in frustration.
"Well, the time she stepped in, she said that she'll wait for you."
"And you didn't do anything?"
I sigh as I see Magie nodding. "Let's get down to business," I said before walking inside the kitchen, leaving Magie with a curious look.
When I reach the kitchen, I saw that red head woman I slept with last night. Well, not really. We just sleep together and nothing happen since I was knocked out. I was too drunk last night. I just woke up with her by my side, completely naked. She's trying to clean something at the sink. "Stop what you are doing and get out of my house!" I said as loud as I can. No one- I mean, no woman is allowed to touch and destroy anything inside my kitchen except Magie and my mother. Destroy for me means even by just burning my food.
"Oh, hello babe," she replied in her seductive tone. I rolled my eyes. She walks towards me but I stop her by raising my hand.
"Stop right there, woman, I tell you, get out of my house and don't show your face again to me," I said using my serious tone. I saw how she flinched because of fear. I smiled at the back of my head, knowing that girls feel afraid of me.
"But what about last night? You enjoyed everything that had happen last night, right? You let me sleep in your bed."
"Last night. Oh, did you already forget about it? I leave you an amount. That's what you've told me yesterday before I ask you to come with me," I replied in a mocking tone. "Besides, nothing happened between us. I was knocked out," I added.
She stayed silent. "Now get out of my house and never step in my room again Riza," I continued.
"It's Ike not Riza!" she shouted as she stomped her feet before leaving. Damn women. They really are something. I thought to myself. That's when I receive a call from my father.
I really f****d up yesterday and I know that it's the thing that made my father called me. I've never been with a woman but last night, all I have in mind is play and even made a mistake of asking that woman to accompany me.
"Hey old man."
"Hey to you too. Your mother is preparing something for dinner. Your brother is coming."
"Go straight to the point, this has something to do with either me or Nathan," I said sarcastically. My father just laughed at me as he cut the line. I shrugged my shoulder and headed towards my room.
I still have three hours before going to my parent's house for that so-called dinner. I called my secretary, Karen, to cancel all my meetings that is scheduled tonight. Yes, I even work at night or meet some target investors.
The next thing I did is to sit inside my office that is in my house. I intentionally designed this office because I prefer working at home. It's better for me to work at home because I can easily do things. I was too focused on my work that I didn't notice the time.
A knock from my office door made me aware that I've been working too long. "Caden, your mother asked me to remind you about the dinner," says Magie as she entered the room.
I cursed under my breath for forgetting about the dinner. "Thank you Magie," I replied pushing myself up from the swivel chair.
I went straight to the bathroom to take a shower. After somehow, I'm finally done making myself fresh again. I chose to wear a plain white t-shirt paired with a torn out jeans. My usual attire when I'm away with all my works. I put on my Rolex and run out of my room.
The last thing I wanted to do is to piss off my mother for making her wait for me. I was on my way to my car when I saw Roger still busy fixing something. "You can stop that and have some rest," I said that earned a smile from him. I nodded before climbing inside my car.
I maybe cold and arrogant with anyone but not to those people I care. My family that includes Roger and Magie who stayed with me from the day I was born until now that I'm the one managing my family's business. Since those couples cannot have a child, they give all their attention and time serving my family, especially me. That made them important to me.
After almost hours of driving, I finally reached my parent's place. I saw my brother's car parked just beside my parents. That dude has arrived earlier that I expected.
"Man you're here! What took you so long?" greets my brother giving me a punch on my shoulder. Nathan is just a year ahead of me that makes us to be even closer to each other.
"Want me to disorganize your face huh?" I replied that earned a loud laugh from our father who is descending from the stairs.
We greeted him the way we greeted Nathan each other. That's how we are when we're together. We don't usually mix business to family affairs. That's too much different. That's what my father wants to avoid. We were talking and laughing when we're interrupted by our mother saying, "Oh, look at my boys."
"Mom, how are you?" asks Nathan as he hugged her.
"As if he's really concerned," I said. "Hey mom," I added.
After the maid announced that the food is ready, we gathered at the dining room. We started chatting from my father's career until passing it to me to my brother's career which is to become an architect. Yes, he is not into business. That decision of him burdened me. I had no other choice but to follow my father's step.
After our dinner, we continued talking at the living room. Yes, like a normal family dinner. My mother always make sure that everybody is present from dinner until we are all ready to go on our ways. "How's your new project?" I ask my brother. He just shrugged his shoulder. For him, that means good.
"Anyways, Caden, do you still remember that arrange marriage I've been telling you over the phone that you always ignore?" ask my father.
"Yeah, what about it?"
"Young man, I'm serious about it."
I furrowed my brows. I can sense that there is something in his mind. I can feel three pairs of eyes staring intently towards me. "Go straight to the point."
"To avoid rivalry in the world of business, I decided to make an agreement with Mr. Meyers -"
"And that is an arrange marriage, Skip that part. What's next?" I said cutting him.
"You need to marry his daughter."
"Okay, that's easy. Marrying his - what!" I literally stood from my seat as his words sinks in. "No way in hell I would marry someone. Hey, Nathan is still alive you know?" I continued and sat back while looking at Nathan.
"I'm out from that topic," says my brother trying to stop himself from laughing. I shot him a glare that earned a smirk. My mother elbowed him causing me to smirk back at him.
"Remember your cousin, ah, I don't want to tell the name since you don't like hearing it? I am willing to make him the owner of the company. Besides, Nathan here is not interested with it."
My father is seriously staring at me. "What the f**k!"
"Language son," interrupted my mother.
"Seriously? You will let other people to run and have your company?"
"Yeah, and what' wrong, he is my nephew and not just anybody," he said. I can only see seriousness in his eyes.
I closed my eyes trying to calm myself. Never in my life that I imagined being married. I sleep with girls that cathches my interest but marriage never crosses my mind. Not until I reach thirty, I guess. But hell no, I'm still tweenty six.
"Need help in deciding?" Asks my brother mockingly. I glared at him. I wanted to take away that smirk away from him. I hate it.
"Ugh, come on dad. Do I even have a choice? You know that I'll never let anyone take over the company unless it's Nathan," I said.
"Does that mean yes?" my father said.
"Huh, whatever!" I replied and walked towards the kitchen. I really need something to drink right now. Something that will make me feel better.
