Sabrina Meyers (POV)
I woke up the next morning with a light from the sun leaking through the curtains of the window. I groaned as I was blinded by the light. My head is aching but I still manage to open my eyes. I push myself up and stretched my arms. I look at the bedside table to see the time. The alarm clock says that it's already nine. Thanks goodness, I don't have any appointments or important meetings today. I'd certainly be late if ever.
I entangled the sheets off of my body and headed towards the bathroom. I almost screamed when I looked at my reflection in the mirror. My mascara was smudged on my face. Then, events from last night clouded my mind.
I literally hit my forehead using my fist. I was with Ema last night. After the event that had happen the time that woman came inside the house, I called Ema and ask her if she could accompany me at a certain club. At first, I was controlling my drinks because I was just trying to enjoy the music. But as soon as Ema asked me the reason why I called her, I started to order harder drinks. It was the first time that I had those strong drinks. Ema can't believe I did that.
'Damn Sabrina! You drowned yourself last night! Just be thankful that you came home safe!' I scolded myself.
Pushing away the memories from yesterday, I take a bath and do some of my morning rituals. I chose to wear a loose white t-shirt, which is actually what I love to wear if I just want to stay inside the house, and a black short. I don't have any plan to go out today since I have this stupid hang over.
After checking myself at the wall mirror, I immediately walk towards the door. I know, by this time, Magie has prepared a food. And, by this time Caden is already gone. He is always missing in action.
I opened the door only to come face to face with the last person I wanted to face - Caden. Miracle it is. He is still here at this time. His expression is as hard as rock. By just merely staring at him, I know that he is kind of mad.
I smiled and greeted him. But the next thing he did surprised me. "My office, now!" he yelled causing me to flinch. That was loud.
'You really did something bad Sabrina! You awakened the sleeping monster inside him!" I shouted at myself at the back of my head.
I should be used to it. This is not just the first or the second time he talked and acted that way towards me. It's been almost a month now since his attitude towards me changed. And those days was hell. Yes, a hell that I didn't even imagine to happen. We've been arguing about simple things or just ignore each other. He will spend more of his time in their hotel, maybe sleeping with a woman of his taste. If he comes home, he is in his drunken state.
How I hate it but what can I do? Even if I wanted to talk to him, he just finds his way out in order for him not to face me. I hate him for not talking to me in a very nice way and not telling me the reason why his attitude towards me suddenly changed.
"Sabrina!" yelled Caden that brought me back to my senses.
"You are still here?" I said. My mind is wandering.
"I already called your name for the tenth time for goodness sake and you didn't even hear it. I said in my office, now!" he replied. I really can sense anger in his voice.
Not wanting to piss him even more, I just followed him. We walked silently until we are finally inside his office. "Close the door," he said once we are inside his office. I rolled my eyes as I closed the door. When I turned to face him, he is now leaning at the window frame, crossing his hands over his chest.
"Who is that guy you were with last night?" He is staring at me intently, like I've done the most demonic act ever.
"Guy? Whoa, I'm not with a guy. I was with Ema the whole time. And oh, this -" I was not able to continue what I'm saying when I remembered something. I bit my lip and stared at him. Guilt suddenly washed over me.
'Oh, oh. Dang it Sabby! What the hell!'
"Now you remembered something. Now tell me, who is that guy?"
"I- I really can't remember his name. He just approached us in our table and Ema was the one who -"
"Bullshit Sabrina! Who the heck am I you are trying to fool!"
"Trying to fool? Hey, that's not -"
"You just met him at the club and allowed him to drive you home? What kind of a married woman would do that!" he said. His eyes are full of anger.
"Drive home?" Then, again, a memory came into view. I cursed under my breath. How can I be so stupid? I was totally drunk last night.
"Oh, don't worry. Look, I'm safe!" I replied as I turned around that earned a growl from him.
"That's bullshit! Safe or not, the issue here is the fact that you let a random man drive you home!" he replied.
"Wait? Why are you even mad at me? That was once, for pete's sake. I don't even get mad at you when you brought home a random woman you just met once at a club!" I replied pissing him even more. His face darkened. Yeah, that's right. Let him have his own medicine.
"We're totally different, you're a woman and I'm a man."
"So that gives you the privilege and the validation to just go and sleep with random women you want and get interested in?" I sarcastically said. "Come on! If not because of that man you are mad of, I wouldn't be home, safe and sound!" I immediately added.
"Come on, you really can't understand what I'm trying to say!"
"What? That you're worried about me?" I said. Then realization hit me. Is he really worried about me? "Or, are you worried about me?" I added.
"No!" he immediately replied. "No, I'm not. If that man takes advantage of you, then I'm responsible for it for allowing you to go out just to have fun! And, one more thing, if he did something to you, I wouldn't allow my so-called wife to get pregnant because of a man she doesn't even know," he said.
"Come on Caden, what's wrong with you. He just drove me home. Nothing to worry!" I said. I'm really annoyed by his attitude.
"Yeah right, he just did what you've said he did. Believe me he's a man," he sarcastically replied.
"Oh gracious goodness Caden. Don't judge every man by your own - how do I even say it, animalistic or monstrous standard. They're not like you!" I replied as I rolled my eyes. I wasn't even expecting those words to just find it's way out of my mouth.
In just a blink, he is now standing in front of me, grasping my waist. His fist tangled my hair making me look up at him. "You are h-hurting m-me," I said. I cannot bear with the pain he caused by just grabbing my hair. My scalp is already aching.
I saw his eyes softened as he saw a seed of tear rolling down my cheek. It's really painful. He suddenly let go of my hair but his other arm is still on my waist. "Never ever talk to me that way again Sabrina, I can be as monstrous as you think I am," he said. "I can take your life right here, right now!" he added.
"Then take it! Take it. It's better if you just kill me than to let me feel the pain I never experienced from my parents!"
He just stared at me. Different kind of emotions passes through his eyes. "Never talk to me that way again Sabrina. Never," he said as he used his hand to tuck a strand of hair that is on my face.
He used his finger to lift my chin up causing me to look at him. "I'm sorry if I hurt you," he said, I can sense both regret and sadness in his voice.
I just stay there looking at him in silence. I wanted to shout at him. What now? After hurting me, he's just going to say sorry like I didn't feel any pain from what he did?
'Sabrina, you're too soft to him. He hurt you. You should be mad at him. You shouldn't just put your guards down just because he said he is sorry. Come on, don't be naive!' I shouted at myself.
"Go to your room and have a rest. I know, you still want to sleep. I'll just tell Magie to bring your meal in your room," he said. He let go of me. I stared at him for a second before I turned on my heel and headed outside.
I can feel his eyes on my back as I walk away from him. Tears fell down. Why didn't I expect him to be harsh? How I wish this marriage never happen. Then a lot of what if's flooded my mind. What if Luke didn't cheat on me, would he be the one I married? What if I disobeyed my father and run away on the day of my wedding? What if I didn't have feelings for Caden, would I still stay by his side?
Caden Stewart (POV)
"Magie, please bring Sabrina her breakfast in her room," I said to Magie as I saw her watering the plants. Magie smiled and nodded. I thought she'll ask or say something but she just continued with what she is doing.
"Where is Roger?"
"I'm here!" says Roger who appeared from the entrance door.
"Hey, do you have anything to do?"
"None. Just stay at home and watch my wife do the chores," he replied teasingly as he winks at Magie. I just nodded my head and look at Magie again who is now staring at me.
"Late going to your office," she commented to which I nodded. I really waited for Sabrina to wake up for me to talk to her which turned into something harsh. I was not able to control myself a while ago. I hurt her in just a blink of an eye.
I don't like the way he described me.
"Yeah, I'll be coming home late," I said before I walk towards my car. I climbed inside and started the engine. I gave Magie one last look before I drove off of the street.
Due to the heavy traffic, It took me an hour before I parked my car in front of the company building. I was greeted by my employees as I stepped inside. Those lustful stares from our receptionist made me smirk. As always, I have an effect on them.
My office in the tenth floor and I need to wait for the damn elevator for almost five minutes before I finally reach my office. I saw my secretary Karen, talking to a young woman in her desk.
Out of curiosity, I approached them. "Good morning Karen," I greeted Karen.
"Good morning mr. Stewart," she replied. I just nodded at her and glance at the woman who is now staring at me with lust. Yeah, sometimes I hate that look.
"Mr. Stewart, this is Lily, she's the one I'm talking about last week. She'll be the one to temporarily replace me until I give birth to my baby," she said introducing the woman.
"Good morning sir," says Lily using her sweetest voice as she stretched her hands to greet me.
"Good morning to you too," I replied as I reach for her hand. I immediately took my hands away. I don't like the way she stares at me.
"Karen, can I talk to Lily in my office first?" I said as I smiled at her. Karen just nodded her head and smile. I turned on my heel and entered my office with Lily following behind me.
I watch as she closed the door. "Sir, why do you want to talk to me?" she asked once she turned to face me.
"I'm going to tell you this, straight to the point. I didn't screen you to get in this building because I know how Karen works and I know that she chooses the best to replace her," I said.
"Sir, what do you mean?" she replied flirtatiously. She walks closer to me and is about to put her hands on my neck to cling on me when I stepped back. If not because of Karen, I wouldn't allow this woman to even come near me.
"Lily, you don't want to disappoint Karen, right? You are here to work and not to flirt with the boss. If you don't want to be fired, better act professionally," I said. Her face reddened like tomato.
"I- I'm sorry sir. I- I thought you want to talk to me because you're interested in me," she replied as she looks down the floor.
"I want to talk to you because I want to tell you the do's and don'ts in my office. I hope you know your responsibility," I replied.
"Yes sir," she replied. Still looking down the floor.
"Good. You may now find your way out. Karen will help you with your work," I said before I walk to my swivel chair.
I watch as she went out of my office. I may be playing with girls but I don't want to have intimate relationship with my employees. They know something about my company and they can certainly use that to do things just to get me.
After Lily strode out of my office, I busied myself reading and signing these boring files in my desk. I was reading an email when someone knock on the door. "Come in!"
Karen entered. "Sir, Luke is here and he wants to talk to you," she said. I clenched my fist. What is that man doing in my office?
I heaved a deep sigh and straightened on my seat. "Let him in," I said to which Karen just nodded before she heads outside.
After a minute, Luke came in. "Sup man!" he cheerfully said. How could he act like this in front of me. How could he act cheerfully as if he's not doing anything behind my back.
"Have a seat," I coldly said. His cheerful attitude suddenly disappeared and just stared at me like he wasn't expecting my coldness for him.
"Hey, what's with the coldness dude. You really hate me that much huh?" he said mockingly.
Really? If we are not in the office, I would hit him hard on his face. Just seeing his face annoys me. "Why are you here?" I asked.
"Come on, drop that attitude. Look, if you are still mad at me because until now, you blame me for your sister's death. I'm sorry. I didn't ask for that accident. And, if you're blaming me for the fact that your father wants me to inherit the company, I'm sorry. Besides, this is already yours," he said making me clench my fist.
"Will you stop talking about my sister and the company," I replied.
Memory of my sister came into view. If Luke didn't force her to accompany him in his basketball match that night, they wouldn't have met an accident. And I hate him for that. My sister is too precious to leave that early.
"Okay fine," he said raising his hands on the air.
"Why are you here?"
"I just want to personally talk to you."
"About what?"
"Oh, dude. Can you not act coldly towards me? I'm not even doing anything to you."
I calm myself after hearing him say that. If I don't act naturally in front of him, he'll have an idea that I know something that is happening between them and Sabrina.
"Fine, why are you here?" I asked. Now, I tried talking to him in my calm state.
"That's it," he said. "I'm here to invite you to my wedding this coming week," he added that surprised me. Wedding?
"Wedding?" I asks with curiosity.
"Yes, a wedding. You know, waiting at the altar for that woman walking down the aisle. Wedding, flowers, white wedding gown, bride, groom, priest and -"
"Yeah, yeah. I know. Who's the unlucky woman?"
"Ava Millers. Sabrina's friend. Didn't she tell you about it?" he asked.
I shrugged my shoulder. How could she tell me about it. We've been distant this past few days. I've been acting harsh and cold towards her.
"Poor you. Sabrina's not telling you stories," he said as he smirk at me.
"What do you mean?" I asked him.
"Nah, it's not my story to tell. It's hers. I hate to say this but you might also want to punch me after you hear the story," he replied. "And might add up with the hate you feel for me," he added.
What does he even mean? Do I need to know more things? What is going on?
"I'll just talk to her tonight."
"Great idea."
"When's the exact date of your wedding?" I asked him. I may hate him but he is still blood related to me.
Luke told me the exact date of his wedding and some more details. He stayed in my office for an hour talking about business and I can say that he is really intillegent. He know what he is saying. Maybe, that's the reason why, people like him.
I was just too surprised because all the hate I have for him suddenly disappeared after he told me about his wedding. The only thing I wanted to do right now is to talk to Sabrina and ask her about everything. But how? I already hurt her.
Did I just jump into conclusion? I was mad with nothing?
