Caden Stewart (POV)
I woke up the next morning without Sabrina by my side. I took the sheets off my body and walked around the room calling Sabrina's name but she's out of sight. I just went inside the bathroom and takes a bath. Maybe, Sabrina just woke up early and is downstairs.
Once I'm done with all my morning rituals, I went downstairs with Roger sitting at the living room with his tea on his left hand. "Good morning Roger. Where are the ladies?" I asked. It's very unusual for me not to see Magie this early. She's always the first person to wake up.
"Sabrina and Magie went out early. Sabrina's father called her for an emergency."
"What emergency?" I asked. Why didn't Sabrina wake me up?
"Her mother is in the hospital," he replied. Even in serious times, Roger always acts calm.
"What? Did she say anything or any reason why?"
"No, she was just crying," he replied.
"Okay, I'll just go to where the hospital is. I'll just have my breakfast somewhere. I'll leave you alone here Roger," I replied to which he nodded.
I run outside to my car. Once I'm inside, I dig for my phone and dialed Sabrina's number. After two rings, she picked up her phone. "Caden," she said from the other line. It's very obvious that she's been crying.
"You cried, what is happening?"
"My- uhm, mom's illness attacked her again. I don't know, we will just wait for what the doctor will tell us," she replied.
"She'll be fine Sabrina. Don't think too much or you'll be stressed. Let the doctors handle things for her, okay?" I said.
I talked to her for a while and tried to calm her down. I also asked her where the hospital is to which she immediately told me. It took me almost thirty minutes before I parked my car in front of the hospital.
I headed inside and ask for Sabrina's mother's room. The receptionist easily told me where they are. Ah, I almost forgot that Meyers are a well-known family just like ours.
"Sabrina," I said as I saw her sitting on the chair intended for visitors just outside her mother's room.
She immediately looked up at me, her eyes are filled with tears. I walk towards her and invite myself down on the empty chair beside her.
I hug her and let her cry on my chest. I can feel her tears as my t-shirt is getting wet. "Pour your emotions out," I simply said as I caress her hair, my hand is on her back.
After I don't know how long, she finally stopped. That's when I decided to talk to her. "Why are you out here? You're supposed to be inside - with your mother," I said.
She pulled herself away from me. "I can't see my mother in that bed. I always see her as the woman who is strong," she sadly replied.
"Is she -"
"She's unconscious. Her doctor told us that she'll wake up soon."
"Come on, calm yourself before she'll wake up."
I spend almost half of my day at the hospital because Sabrina has been crying. Even Magie and her father cannot stop her. I cannot let her like that. Her mother is having a difficulty in breathing. According to Dexter, Luna is asthmatic plus her blood pressure is high. Thats what made her unconscious. What's even worse is that Luna's hits a hard object when she fell.
When Sabrina calmed down, I asked her to come with me at the nearest restaurant. There, she told me how worried she is for her mother. "Dad said she's been working out this past few days and has been doing all the chores at home," Sabrina said.
"She wants to maintain her good figure and thinks it's good for her health. But because she's aging, I guess, her body didn't respond to her well," she added making me nod. Sabrina is right. At her mother's age, her body might be to tired for all the workouts she's been doing.
I can see sadness in Sabrina's eyes. I feel sorry for her but what should I do? I just need to be by her side and lend my shoulder to her. After having our brunch, I walked her back to the hospital with all the food we bought for Magie and Dexter. I stayed for a moment to talk to them before talking to Sabrina.
"Babe, look. I don't want to leave you but I -"
"Just go Caden. Your presence is enough. You calming me is enough," she replied making me nod.
"Call me if anything happens."
"I will Caden. I will," she replied before I pull her for a hug. I give her a kiss on her forehead before kissing her on the lips. After that talk with her, I left the hospital and headed to the company.
"Did you cancel all my appointments this morning?" I asked my secretary Lily. Yes, it's been a while since Lily became my new temporary secretary and I can't say anything about her work. Since the day I talked to her, she's been acting professional. I thought she'll hate me or just leave because of what I told her but I was wrong. She even said sorry for how she acted. And, I'm good with that. As long as she'll not do anything suspicious and unusual again, I'll keep her for the company's sake.
"Yes sir. I cancelled it. You just have one meeting this afternoon at exactly four at the conference room," she informed me.
"Ah, ah. That's great. Thanks for doing me a favor," I said before I entered my office.
I immediately busied myself replying all the mails that I've received. I really hate it when I need to read lots of messages. Sometimes I even get tired of it and just email it to my secretary.
I was too engrossed with what I'm doing that I almost forgot about my meeting. Thanks to my secretary for reminding me. It's really not bad to have someone to remind you with everything.
It took me another two hours for the meeting. I can't deny the fact that I'm quite disappointed with the presentation they showed me. I don't know if my expectation is too high. But, still they closed the deal with me. There's nothing bad at investing to such business.
I'm now preparing my things for me to go when my phone suddenly rings. Unregistered number pops out the screen. Thinking that the call might be important, I answered it.
"Hello, how may I help you?" I asked.
"Ca-Caden," says the person from the other line. I can say that the person is quite drunk by the way she talks.
"Raine," I said. Yes, I easily recognized her voice. I thought we are done talking. What the hell is she doing, calling me in her drunken state.
"Caden, can - can you come to my place? You- you are the only person that - I - I can talk to and ask for help," she said.
"What do you mean?" I asked with pure curiosity.
"Please Caden," she said.
I was a little worried by how she talks. I never heard her say those words. She's the kind of woman who doesn't say please to anyone. What she wants is what she gets no matter how hard it is and impossible it is to get.
"I'll be there," I replied before ending the call. Even if Raine has done something wrong to me, I still cannot erase the fact that Raine needs help now.
As I promised, I left the company and is now standing in front of Raine's apartment. They really had the power. This place is really for high class people. I walk towards her apartments door and rings the bell.
The door opened and Raine appeared. Her eyes were fluffy. She immediately hugs me as she saw me standing in front of her. We stayed like that for almost a minute before she pulled herself away from me.
"What is wrong?" I asked as we enter her apartment. I see a lot of canned drinks in her living room. "Have you been drinking?" I added.
She just gives me a smile. What is wrong with her. "My parents doesn't want me in our house. They hate me!" she said as tears roll down her cheeks.
"What do you mean?"
I don't get it. Raine is her parents favorite. How could they hate her?
"I've been the black sheep in the family and they hate me because of that. They always compare me to my younger sister," she said as she takes a drink from the can.
"Come on. When did that happen?" I asked. I never heard her parents compare her to her siblings. Or maybe, I just don't give it that much attention before.
"Drinking wouldn't fix your problem," I replied as I sit at the sofa across her. She nodded as a response.
"I know, but I just want to forget everything for just a night I guess," she replied. I was about to say something when she raised her hand and shuts me up.
"I'll go get something. Wait for me here," she said and went inside her kitchen. I waited for her. She came back with two glasses of wine on her hands.
"Here, have some light drink. I know, you wouldn't like to have a hard drink right?" she said.
I nodded and take the glass she's giving me and put it down on the table. "Come on Raine. You already had enough liquor. You're already drunk. I think it's time for you to sleep," I said.
"Nah, come one! Just drink with me!" she said as she raised her glass of wine for a toast.
"No. You should -"
"Come on just for once! Your wife wouldn't be mad at you if you drink just once," she said with a sly smile.
I heaved a deep sigh and reach for the glass of wine she gave me a while ago. In just a swift, I guzzled it up. "Done, now will you go now to your room?" I said.
"Nah, join me!" she said.
That's when I had enough and stands on my seat. I walk closer to her and pulled her up. "Go to your room- " I was not able to continue what I'm about to say when I suddenly felt something that made dizzy. All of a sudden, my eyes become blurry. The last thing I saw was Raine giving me a smirk. "Done with my mission," I hear her say before I finally lost it.
The next day, I woke up with a heavy head. I look around the room and immediately pushed myself up of the bed as I recognized the whole place. This is certainly not my room. Then, memories from last night came into view.
Raine offering a drink to me to which I drunk. Then, I feel dizzy and my eyes becomes blurry. A memory of Raine smirking at me after I had a drink from that glass of wine she gave me, made me realize that she really planned for everything. It was just a bad trap for me.
How could I be so stupid to trust and believe Raine. I really can now believe in the saying that a person who is not thinking well and a liar, will always stay the same. Raine is like that, she's really a good damn liar. She can never change because she's one of those lunatic women.
"Hey babe, you're such a sleepy head!" Raine says as she came out from the bathroom. She's just wearing an oversized t-shirt.
"What did you do?" I said. I'm really mad at her. And, I'm mad at myself for being a fool.
"I slept with you last night! Is that supposed to be a surprised or?"
"What did you put in that drink?"
"Something that will make you lose your consciousness," she replied with a mocking smile.
"Are you playing with me? How can you do that? I trusted you but you did the last thing I hate."
She smirked at me. "Caden, you really think that I will let you go huh? I will not. You should be mine. Only mine and I can do anything to have you back! I can even kill anyone who crosses my way just to have you," she replied making me glare at her. This isn't the Raine that I once loved.
"Raine! I've moved on! Can you just do the same and be happy! There are lots of men out there. More deserving than I am! Or, look for someone who can bear with your attitude," I said.
"Nah, that's not the Caden I met. The Caden I met was arrogant and doesn't have a pure heart for a woman. She really changed you. A lot," she said. "But, I will never let her have you because you are mine. Alone," she added, igniting the fire of anger inside me.
I heaved a deep sigh. If something happened to us last night, then it would really be a big problem for me. It may be the reason for Sabrina to hate me. "Raine, I've given you my whole attention when we were together but what did you actually do? You just leave me in the air and go after your man. You even lied to me!" I said. I cannot control my emotion that I'm feeling right now.
"I know Caden. And that's what I want to have now. I realized that you are the man for me. And I cannot accept the fact that you are with another woman. I love you and I want you to love me again. Let's live like before."
"Isn't it too late for that realization?" I sarcastically said.
"It's not. As long as I'm still alive Caden, it will never be late," she replied.
I hit my forehead using my palm. I'm really stupid. Thinking about what happened made me want to just slap her and kick her. "Tell me, did we -"
"Yes, something happened to us last night," she replied flashing a victorious smile. In just a blink of an eye, I walk towards her and grip her arm.
"You!"
"What Caden? I told you, I'll do everything to have you and that's exactly what I did last night," she replied. "And, you enjoyed it. We both did!" she added.
"You will never have me!" I shouted in her face. "You think what happened last night make you succeed? That I am now yours?"
"Of course, you are mine. Always been mine!"
"No! I was never yours! And, I will never be your Raine! Never!" I shouted on her face as I tightened the grip on her arm making her wince in pain.
"I can because I love you!" she shouted back.
"How can you say that you love me? You cannot even give me the freedom? Love is not just about having the person by your side Raine, it's also about accepting and letting go of the person you love. It's about seeing him smile and happy with whatever he loves to do and to whoever he's with," I said to which she just smirked.
"That's not how I define love. What I know is that, I want to have you. You alone is fine with me! That is love. To have the person you love beside you!" she replied. Without hesitation, I pushed her hard. She fell on the floor with a loud thud.
"Caden, even if you hurt me, you can't do anything about the fact that something happened between us last night. And, I'm going to tell this to your wife," she said. "Let's see if she'll stay with you or leave you!" she added making me smirk.
That's what I don't want to happen. I will not let her ruin my life and my marriage. "Do that and your family will never accept you again just like what you said last night," I replied making her look at me in fear. If I need to act like a monstrous man in front of him, then I'll do it. I'll do it for the sake of my marriage.
I know, Raine cannot live without her parents' support. She's been depending on them after she failed to be a famous model like what she dreamed for. She doesn't even know how to run their company and find for a job for herself. She only knows how to spend money. And maybe, that's the reason why her parents are trying to ignore her. But then, her parents are not as smart as me since they still let their emotions reign and still support Raine for whatever she does.
When she stared at me and didn't say anything, I picked my t-shirt that was scattered on the floor and strode out of the room. I picked up the keys that was on the table by the door and went outside to my car.
I immediately drive out of the busy street. I cannot stop myself from worrying. I don't know what Raine is thinking and planning right now. But I'm really concern about how Sabrina would react once she discovers about what happened.
"You're here. You didn't text me last night," Sabrina said as she meets me by the door in our room.
"I- I had things to do. I slept in my office," I replied as I kiss her on her lips. She smiled at me. That's the smile that I wanted to see everyday.
"I miss you babe. I really do," she said.
"Me too."
She pulled away from me and look up at me. "Hey, you don't talk too much today, do you have any problem?" she asked that made me shake my head.
"Uhm, maybe you're thinking about some possible projects in the future," she asked again to which I shake my head, once again.
"I - I just want to have some sleep Sabrina. I didn't have peaceful evening since I didn't have you by my side," I replied.
"Aw, my hot husband wants to sleep," she replied making me smile. I walk towards our bed and sits down at the edge. She followed my action and sits beside me.
"You know, I really love hearing you say husband to me," I replied emphasizing the word husband.
"I'll always tell that word to you, husband!" she said and kisses me on my lips. She was about to pull herself away when I pulled her by her waist and deepen the kiss. I really miss her. I miss her everything.
She was the one who pulled away from me. Then, I remembered her mother. "How is your mom?"
"She's quite fine now. I'm really worried last night. That's the only time I saw her in that state. I really don't know what to do."
"Is she still in the hospital?"
"She'll be discharged tomorrow and I volunteered to be the one to look after her in the hospital tonight."
"That's great. I wanted to be with you but I'll not prohibit you from taking good care of your mother. She's also my mother now," I replied.
"But for now. I'll stay with you," she said before giving me a kiss on my forehead.
"Hmm... What if we'll make a baby?" I seductively asked making her blush. She pushed herself away from me.
"Ugh, I wanted to but not this time," she replied making me smile. She really know how to answer back.
We just stayed there, staring at each other until she talked.
"Babe, I have a favor to ask you," she said as she smile at me.
"And that is?" I asked with pure curiosity.
"I want to stay in my parents' house until mom will recover. Can you let me stay there?"
I stared back at her. Maybe this can help me. Maybe, Sabrina will not be bothered by Raine's plan if she will stay in her parents' place for a while. This can also help me have a clearer plan on how to stop Raine from her possible way of breaking this marriage.
"Of course. I'll just visit you there. Anytime," I replied to which she hugs me tight.
