Evan I arrived at the location he’d texted me, my bike slowing the closer I got, like even the engine knew it shouldn’t be here. The building loomed in front of me, seven stories of rot and neglect, concrete cracked and stained, windows either shattered or boarded up like blind eyes refusing to see. The place looked abandoned, like it should’ve been condemned years ago. A single flickering light buzzed above the entrance, casting long, distorted shadows across the ground. I stood in front of the door longer than I meant to. My hand hovered. This was desperation and I knew it. I hated that I knew it. But I was out of options. Out of time. Watching the woman I loved slip further away every day had hollowed me out, and I was standing at the edge of something I never thought I’d touch. S
