5 He fell asleep after the fourth beer, which was still well before midnight, so he woke up early, at just past five. Groggy and hungover in that way only drinking too much beer can produce, like you’re full of something that’s starting to spoil, fermenting past its welcome. Luckily he had the foresight to undress before falling asleep, so the pants and shirt he was going to wear last night to dinner and drinks with Mia were still in reasonably good shape. He hadn’t packed more than two changes of clothes since he didn’t expect to stay here for more than a day.
