CHAPTER TWELVELindsey took a cab from Grand Central to Seventh Avenue and ducked into the Stage Delicatessen for a sandwich and a cup of coffee. He didn’t worry about coffee keeping him awake. One thing he’d seldom had to worry about was sleeping. He ordered a hot pastrami and watched the flow of customers while he waited for his food. Clearly, he had stumbled into a late-night dress rehearsal for a revival of Guys and Dolls. At one table, Nathan Detroit was attacking a plate of turkey and mashed potatoes while the long-suffering Adelaide sniffled into her handkerchief.
